Papoose Inks 1.5 Million Dollar Deal With Jive

New York mixtape stand-out Papoose has reportedly signed with Jive Records.

According to his management's official website, violator.com, The Brooklyn, NY-bred MC has signed a $1.5 million deal with the label. However, the site offered no other information.

At press time, representatives for Jive could not be contacted for comment.

Papoose, who has been co-signed by Busta Rhymes, Nas and Kool G Rap, among others, first came to prominence in 2004 via his song "Alphabetical Slaughter" which was featured on Kay Slay's DJ Kay Slay's Streetsweeper, Vol. 2: The Pain From The Game.

In 2005, he won the Justo Award for the 'Best Underground Rapper' and garnered national attention this year, by appearing on the remix of Busta's single "Touch it"

With the signing, The 28-year-old rapper joins roster that includes The Clipse, Outkast, UGK, Too-Short, R. Kelly and Youngbloodz, among others.

Papoose has been working on his debut album, Nacirema Dream, which is slated to be released this winter or early 2007

who cares who he signed to...People need to stop worrying about these record labels and start caring about how dope a rapper's flow is. That is the problem with hip hop these days...Lyrics aren't appreciated. Now, any loser can come out from under a rock, hook up with someone who is somewhat known, create some goofy little hook, and all of a sudden they are number one on 106 and Park. Papoose is of a dying breed...amonst those people, you have Cassidy, Fabolous, Jay-Z, Lloyd Banks, and J.R. Writer. Everybody else now days either sucks, is over-rated, or just sucks completely. Rhyming wise, the South and the West suck. The lyrical, east-coast flow is what I think of when "rapping" comes to mind. I know that bullshit bubblegum South shit (aside from Young Buck who is grimy as a mothafucka) is good for clubs...bitches love to dance to it...but come on people...When you are smoking a blunt in your ride, you dont want to hear the shit that is on the radio/BET/MTV now days...You want to hear freestyles, talented rhyme schmes, and dope verses... I dont know about you, but all I have been listening to the past 2-3 years are mixtapes. That is where the rappers drop their best work.

yeaaah! the last couple sentences i agree with alot cause mixtapes are usually better than albums, i co sign with most of what u said, when i think of Hip Hop i think of NY, not the west and south

rappers need to find some way to use the mixtape biz as there own to sell they own shit like major labels do albums cause the mixtape biz has got to be a loophole, rappers dont gotta answer to white dudes who know shit all about hip hop, so thats why i think if the right person makes the mixtape game a money making thing, others will follow
