Black Eyed Peas Face Police Issues For Canadian Show

More than 100 police officers and guards will be on duty for a Black Eyed Peas concert in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada for fear of attracting what officials call a "rowdy" crowd.

The group, which is seen by many as being a relatively safe act, is drawing opposition from many in the town. At a meeting to brief the public on security plans, The Charlottetown Council stated that the town's entire police force, along with fire and ambulance services, will be on hand at the CharlottetownDrivingPark where an estimated 20,000 fans are expected to attend the concert, according to Canada's CBC News.

Despite a recent successful rock concert going off without a hitch, some local citizens have reservations about the Peas' presence and what they feel is a potentially disruptive crowd.

"Nobody came around to ask anybody what they felt about this concert," Joanne MacLeod, who lives across the street from the venue where the concert will be held and was one of more than 50 people who attended the meeting, told reporters. "It looks like just because The Barenaked Ladies concert went over well, that everything else was going to be well. But you've got to realize the Barenaked Ladies had an age group of 15 to 60. This concert is going to take 13 to 25 [year-olds] . A lot more alcohol, drugs, needles -- whatever can take place at any concert."

Deputy Police Chief Richard Collins stated that the city did in fact have a security plan that took three weeks to formulate and was taken from a model for a Rolling Stones concert, which drew over 60,000 fans.

David Carver, the concert's promoter, did not attend the meeting or issue a statement.

In related news, BEP frontman Will.I.Am was recently involved in a fight in a German nightclub.
