Jay-Z Jay-Z held his highly publicized 9/11 concert press conference today (August 31) at New York City's Madison Square Garden and explained the reasons behind his upcoming one-night only show which will take place on the anniversary of the 2001 World Trade Center attacks. Reportedly joined by his wife Beyonce, former Def Jam executive Kevin Liles and New York Governor David Patterson, Jay explained the motivation behind the event. "I wanna thank all the guys on the panel for being here," Hov said a the press conference. "I especially wanna thank [former Def Jam executive] Kevin Liles because an idea isn't anything without execution so he put this together -- I turned on the T.V. September 12th [2001] and I saw footage of these heroic actions, people running into buildings, saving each other and I just saw the strength of New York and it made me proud. So as I was embarking on putting out this Blueprint 3, it was only right to release it the day. This is my chance to help out so I thank all these guys up here helping me see that vision. Kevin Liles, the governor and everybody, I really appreciate this and we gonna have a great time and bring in ear plugs because it's gonna get loud." (Rap Radar) Details surrounding the press conference were revealed over the weekend. Jay-Z will discuss the "Answer The Call" charity concert benefiting New York Polic eand Fire Widows' and Children's Benefit Fund on Friday, September 11, 2009 at New York City's legendary Madison Square Garden. Moderated by Al Roker, Jay-Z will be accompanied by Governor David Patterson, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, New York Police & Fire Widows' and Children Benefit Fund President Stephen Dannhauser, Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta and more. The start time is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and may run into early afternoon. (Press Release) An official confirmation of the upcoming concert was released last week. To kick things off, Absolut and Madison Square Garden will host a once-in-a-lifetime benefit show featuring hip-hop impresario Jay-Z on September 11, 2009, to aid the New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund (). The highly-anticipated performance will air live and commercial-free on Fuse TV at 9pm. The events of September 11 challenged Jay-Z as an entertainer and a New Yorker. This charity concert serves as not just a reminder of the lives lost but as a look towards the future and the hope that arose on September 12. (Hip Hop Press) Hov also confirmed the concert with a written statement. "This charity and concert encompass the true spirit of New York City," Jay said in a statement. "We are asking everyone to 'answer the call' and support and honor the families of those that lost their lives in the line of duty. There is a true camaraderie and resiliency this city showed the world in 2001 and we continue that today by taking care of our own." (Statement) source sohh
