50 Cent recently discussed the public's perception of him as a role model and why, despite violent rap lyrics and a drug dealing past, he continues to gain the youth's attention.

The rapper also reflected on his canceled Family Day event which was scheduled to take place Sunday (August 30) afternoon in Queens, New York.

"I just wanted them to have a good time," Fif said in an interview. "I don't want to preach anything. I'll leave the preaching to the preacher. I'll let my actions and activities I'm involved in speak for me instead of trying to convey a message that people won't receive from me. I'm not sure they're ready to receive that from me. It's cool when they see what I actually do -- What I'm doing as an artist is, I'm being successful as an artist and entrepreneur. The things I say [in songs] may not be something you would expect or look forward to hearing from a role model. But it's my choice as an artist to write the harsh realities. So I'll always be inspiring to the kids that got on the buses. So they're the important people in this situation." (MTV)

Former G-Unit member The Game has also faced criticism for his rap lyrics recently when a New Zealand school principal refused to approve the rapper's visit to speak with students.

"We haven't given approval. It's a decision that will be made in line with school policy," Papatoetoe High Principal Peter Gall said in an interview. "I understand that this fellow may have a bit of an unsavory background. While I am very pleased and proud that we won the competition, I would doubt that we would take up the offer...There are a few of those stories around but it almost seems like the message is 'it's OK to be a bad dude when you're young because you can turn your life around later'. I would much rather have messages from people who say it's great to be a good dude all the time. I have nothing against him, but I am very much against what he has done in the past. It's not right, it's unhealthy." (New Zealand Herald)

Speaking with fans at his Great Adventures concert Saturday afternoon, 50 said his canceled Family Day show was not his fault.

"I was trying to do something good," Fif told the crowd. "So as a kid, I wanted to make something for the kids and allow them to have that experience. Now check this out, when I try to do it in the hood, like everybody else would do in the hood -- they say 'No 50, don't be in the hood.' Y'all seen me come through, but all of them don't get to see me when I come through, right? So when I come through, and then they be like, 'We don't see 50.' And usually you don't see me because I'm somewhere where I'm not trying to be seen -- but I wanna show y'all something. Look over there, the top over there, that's the motherf*cking police. Those motherf*ckers follow me everywhere I go. And you know why? 'Cause I'm from Southside." (iStatus Clothing)

The event was postponed at the last minute Friday (August 28) afternoon.

The musician's manager, Chris Lighty, says the event is being postponed while organizers work out new arrangements with police. Authorities had been worried about whether they would have enough officers on hand to deal with crowds and keep the peace, especially if the rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, performed.
