Fabolous Talks Drake Collabo Record, "We Kept Ending Up In The Same Circles"

Fabolous recently explained why he recruited rap newcomer Drake for his "Throw It in the Bag" remix and how their collaboration went beyond the studio.

Opting out of the average remix, F-a-b-o explained the importance Drizzy played in remixing his hit single.

"Me and Drake, we just met each other in passing on the road," Fab explained in an interview. "We kicked it a few times. We kept ending up in the same circles. Eventually we figured out we wanted to work. I had the remix. I had the beat for a minute...I also didn't just want to do the regular remix, have the same typical remix that everybody is doing where they keep the same beat and get the select few MCs. Drake was new...everybody got wind of Drake behind the success of his mixtape and 'Best I Ever Had.' I figured that would an interesting move. I reached out and he was like, 'Yeah.' I just sent it to him." (MTV)

Drake has been catching the attention of rap veterans as of lately including Nas and LL Cool J.

"It's a lot of talented guys out there," LL explained in an interview. "Lil Wayne is talented. He seems to be the dominant figure in this particular era of hip-hop. So you know, he's doing his thing. I like Drake, you know, that 'You The Best' is a good record...It's a good song. There's a lot of talented guys out there so you know, kudos fellas." (Hip Hop Official)

He was also the first artist Mase chose to indirectly collaborate with for his "comeback" record in June.

"I'm just excited man," Mase said in an interview. "I'm excited. [Michael Jackson] passed away, it just lit the fire up under me, made me wanna go to the studio and do something. So I asked my little nephew, 'Who is the hottest thing out there?' He said Drake and I said I got to see what record he got and when I listened to it I said 'Okay, I'ma jump on the joint.' And I called Suge up and he was like, 'Please let me get that record, please let me get that record.' So I said 'Who you gonna give it to?' And he said you gotta give that to DJ Self. [laughs] If you play it, [you'll get more records from me.]" (Power 105.1)

50 Cent initially questioned the rapper's buzz last month.

"I don't think you can accomplish that right now," Fif said in an interview. "Not without finance. I hear his record on the radio. He got a good buzz, I hear him. Sh*t, it wasn't possible for my music to be on the radio when I was coming. You know mine's was completely organic Like when you hear a song on the radio, it means it's being worked. Ain't nothing there 'just because.' Enough for it to be playing every hour on the hour. That song is being worked like he's on the label. I'm sure Syliva Rhone or Universal, they're spending money to get the record played so the public is feeling like it's just happening. He might not be signed yet, but they might work it to get him to sign. Is it worth signing until you develop that?" (XXLMag)
