Post Alchemist Reveals Carter 3 Song Was Meant For His LP, “They Cut Me A Check For $350K”

Alchemist Reveals Carter 3 Song Was Meant For His LP, “They Cut Me A Check For $350K”

With The Alchemist’s sophomore LP Chemical Warfare hitting stores next month, XXLMag.com caught up with the producer to speak on the disc, and one track in particular that didn’t make the final cut.

It turns out that “You Ain’t Got Nuthin” from Lil Wayne’s multi-platinum Tha Carter III - which also features Fabolous and Juelz Santana - was originally supposed to be on Alc’s album. In fact the Beverly Hills-bred beatmaker wasn’t initially thrilled about losing the song.

“I’m gonna keep it real,” he revealed to XXL. “At first, I was angry. Just the stubborn, dumb rapper/producer guy. Like, ‘Nah, son, I’m making an album! You’re pulling my arm out of my body! This is a finger on my body and you’re making the body incomplete.’ But there was an artist who shall remain nameless who was with me at the time who was like, ‘Shit, if you don’t wanna use that shit, I will!’”

Al sent the track to Weezy, hoping to get a hook, but instead the New Orleans superstar had other plans in mind. “At first the record was done without Wayne and then we sent to Wayne to get the hook on it and it came back with his verse,” Alc explained. “At first, with the whole effect on the voice, I wasn’t crazy about it—not that I’m against it, I just don’t know if that’s how I heard it on the record. It worked out. Hallelujah.”

Al was in turn compensated nicely for his work behind the boards. “[Universal] cut me a check that was $350 grand,” he said. “I’m chillin now. Thanks, baby!”

Chemical Warfare, which features cameos from Eminem, Jadakiss, Pusha T, Blu, Lady Of Rage, Kool G Rap, Prodigy, Three 6 Mafia and Juvenile, among others, hits stores on July 7 via E1 music. – Adam Fleischer

wow.. 350k? How'd he get that much from one song? I wonder how much the singles-producers got.

Not one of my favorite songs on the CD nor one of my fav Alc beats. But I'm glad he got compensated for his work!

Relax folks. thats not what he gets per track. He not saying how he got compensated in the interview, but this was likely after royalties plus advance, but this sounds more like a buyout, maybe even without pub. Alchemist does not get that kind for price per beat.

How about it was reported Dre made $2million of Mary J's Family Affair he produce, alone? And yall think $350k is something? Lol

He doesn't charge his artist what outsiders pay. I know he was $250 per track plus 5 points around In Da Club era. BIshop Lamont recently said in some interview Dre will charge a dude $500k for a track (of course a detail deal).

However, it was said, that his "friend and family rate was $75k while outsiders pay $250K

lol.. "family and friend" rate? :P.. I thought he gave them beats for free :P..

And yeah I understand that Alc doesn't get $350k a beat. I read on xxlmag.com in an interview with Jim Jonsin (who's very hot for the moment) that a producer in todays climate should be happy to get about $25-50k a beat. Maybe that's just his personal price, I don't know.

But even though he may have got it all in a bundle (producer fee, advance, points? etc.), $350k is alot! I just thought that was impressive for just contributing one song on the album.

i'm not saying he gets 350k a track, but you comin and acting like you know what his rates are when frankly you've never even spoke to dude is bullshit..

LOL it's easy to figure out, people don't gotta be producers to know this. People gotta just use their minds. I rap and produce (a little) and it ain't hard to know these things. Mitchy Slick got a beat from Alchemist and his budget ain't big like Weezy, so obviosuly ALC don't get $350K for every beat.

i know, but he gets royalties and distributions of track, so if its a big hit, he get more, than artist payed just for a beat. He didnt charged mary j for 2 mill, she might had to pay at family rate

No One Even Said "Oh Shit, Alchemist Gets 350K A Beat!!11"

The Whole Point Of The Story Is That ALC Isn't A Mainstream Producer At The Moment So 350k For A Dude Like ALC Is A Big Deal, We All Know Cats Like Timbo & Dre Make That Look Like Chump Change But Once Again For ALC Thats Alot Of Money For A Beat That Wasen't Even A Single..
