Jim Jones To Jay-Z, "Young Men Are Making Money Off Autotune, Why Would You Stop That?"

Byrd Gang leader Jim Jones elaborated on his response to Jay-Z's "Death of Autotune" record by claiming the rap mogul's anti-Autotune campaign would harm young artists.

Speaking on "106 & Park," Jones also said Jay-Z avoided him at Hot 97's Summer Jam concert last Sunday (June 7) in New Jersey.

"We're getting money off of autotune, it's just sounding like somebody's trying to knock a hustle and I don't think that's a little bit gangster if you ask me," Jones explained. "We getting money. He's knocking the hustle, ya dig? If these young men are making money off of autotune why would you try to stop that, when you got all the money already? I seen him [at Summer Jam], I don' think he wanted to see me. He almost stopped the whole concert because he said I was in the way of him getting on stage and all of that. But that's politics for the game, ya dig? How you doing? We back, we ballin', we poppin' champagne." (106 & Park)
Jones originally poked fun at Jay's song in a Twitter posting following the concert.

"Above all Summer Jam was dope," Jones wrote via Twitter unmodified. "And I got to see Jay-Z who refused to get out of his van when he saw my pretty face. We was mobbin', he's still a sucka...A old sucka. lol. We back and if he killed autotune then we must be Easter the resurrection. lol Shouts to Soulja Boy Tell Em, he ripped...I saw Jay-Z and Tata they didn't say nothin but sit they a** down when they saw the Spartan 300's lol...I'm glad to see I got everyone on Twitter's attention. In a recent interview, Jigga said the song worked due to the public's overall response to it.

"I'm not saying autotune is wack," Jay told radio personality Angie Martinez earlier this week. "I'm not saying that, I just put a soundtrack to it, I put a voice to it. If people wasn't feeling this way then the record wouldn't work the way it would...The culture is bigger than the politics." (The Angie Martinez Show)
Fabolous recently spoke with SOHH about his reaction to Jay's "Death of Autotune" cut.

"Jay-Z is like the so to say trend killer if he states that something is done," said Fab. "Certain people may feel that way but never say it...but Jay, he'll take the stand and everybody be feelin' that way and be like, 'Yeah Jay's a hero for saying what we've been feeling.' I think what Jay is trying to do is help people get back to the talent of rapping. Let's get some artistry back in the music, some good writing. I think 'Death of Autotune' is dope. I think it's good for the climate too. At some point a lot of these kids, artists are coming out and they're just putting this autotune on their voice... I guess Jay is just tired of everybody jumping on that bandwagon. I kinda was over it too." (SOHH)

As far as autotune goes T-Pain is the only dude I enjoy using it. He is an overall talented dude who only uses it it to give himself a lil extra boost. You cant knock T-Pain's skills, dude is a hit-making machine, with or without autotune. Everyone else just pisses me off. Lil dude that does Pop Champagne to me sounds annoying as hell, all that syrup Wayne drinkin gettin to his head got him thinking its cool for him to use autotune, Kanye's 808's & Heartbreak was dope but Kanye+singing is a lil iffy, I'll even admit Snoop did aite with it but his ass still needed to stick to rappin. If no talent dudes gone use it as a crutch kill it then.

I hate this arguement, only ghetto retards bring it up. Like the other guy said down there people make money off all sorts of fucked up shit. As far as the fans are concerned it's killing the genre. Who cares if young artists make money off of it? It further advances rap toward a group of talentless hacks. Since when was a genre focused around instrumentals and lyricism now focused around a distortion of one's voice? This isn't R&B, get off that autotune shit. It's horribly done and half the niggas using it need singing lessons because it overcorrects their voice and sounds awful.

And what young artists? Prom Queen was horrible and everyone said it was, the only good autotune song was Blame It On The Alcohol and that was Jamie Fox. Ron Browz is awful, Wayne is awful, and everyone else whoring out 808s is lookin real foolish. Cept for T Pain, who generally shouldn't be offended because rap doesn't apply to him unless he's giving out a shitty hook. I get the sense Jones is jealous and he's on that mindless ghetto shit while Jay Z's sporting Maybach's and debonair business suits. Jim Jones just needs to realize that trash can never be on the level of gallantry and extravagance.
