The primary suspect behind the fatal shooting of Roderick "Dolla" Burton has pleaded not guilty to both assault and murder charges.

Aubrey Berry appeared in court today (May 22) to make his plea.

An Atlanta man accused of gunning down a rapper at the Beverly Center hours after the musician arrived in Los Angeles to work on his first CD pleaded not guilty today to murder and assault charges. Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Kristi Lousteau ordered Berry to remain jailed in lieu of $5 million bail pending a bail review hearing next Tuesday. A date is also expected to be set then for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require Berry to stand trial. Outside court, defense attorney Howard R. Price told reporters that he will be asking for bail to be set at "no more than $1 million." (Fox News)

His attorney claims mall security video tape will clear his client's name.

The lawyer for the alleged killer said surveillance footage from the mall will prove his client's innocence."He believed [Dolla] was armed," said Los Angeles attorney Howard Price. "[Berry] was there first." Berry, a music promoter, was dining with associates when he encountered Dolla in the restaurant's bathroom, the lawyer said. There, "a threat was made" by the rapper, Price said. Berry's associates told him he should leave because of Dolla's affiliation with the Crips street gang, he said. As his client waited for his car in the Beverly Center's valet area, Dolla and his cousin, Wilbert Robinson, and another friend, Sidiq Abawi, confronted Berry, Price said. Associates from the murder scene, Beverly Center mall, have addressed their inability to stop the shooting.

"It came out of nowhere," said Beverly Center marketing director Susan Vance of the shooting. Vance said Beverly Center security has worked with the Los Angeles Police Department to keep the mall safe in case of such a crime. "We were prepared as much as we could have been," Vance said. She declined to name specific security procedures. (Apparel News)
Berry was officially charged Wednesday (May 20) afternoon.

The man who allegedly shot and killed up-and-coming rapper Dolla has been charged with three crimes -- two counts of assault with a firearm and one count of murder. 23 year-old Aubrey Berry -- who allegedly killed Dolla at a shopping mall in Los Angeles on Monday (May 18) -- is set to be arraigned this afternoon. He's being held on $1,000,000 bail. (TMZ)

A Georgia man has been arrested for investigation of murder in the fatal shooting of Dolla. Los Angeles police said in a statement Tuesday that 23 year-old Aubrey Louis Berry of Georgia was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport with a gun on Monday night. His bail was set at $1 million. (Fox News)

Berry is due back in court for another hearing on Tuesday (May 26).
