Curren$y Enlists Bun B & Mickey Factz For Digital Only Debut, Insists There’s No Competition With Asher Roth

Fly $ociety leader Curren$y will release his debut album, This Ain’t No Mixtape, digitally through his website of the same name, thisaintnomixtape.com, on April 21.

After stints with No Limit and Young Money, the New Orleans rapper has decided to go the independent route, expediting the release of his debut. “I thought that I was gonna wait for a deal situation, but I just got soured on the whole process of trying to get the deal and the meetings and things of that nature, so I decided to take it into my own hands,” Curren$y told XXLMag.com. “Once I realized there was nobody else—no system of checks and balances—to go through as far as release dates and shit like that with me, I was like, ‘Well, shit then, I’m coming out now.’”

Joining Asher Roth among the first XXL Freshman 10 to put out an official solo release this year, Curren$y insists there’s no competition with Roth, whose first offering Asleep In The Bread Aisle hits stores a day before Mixtape. “I think it’s cool because whoever’s gonna get Asher’s album is gonna get it, regardless of whether my album is out and the same with my album,” he said. “Everything is just good—as far as the feedback I’m hearing from people, they’re getting both.”

The album, produced entirely by New Orleans duo Monsta Beatz, will feature guest appearances from Bun B, Young Chris, Mickey Factz, and Amanda Diva, as well as fellow FS Jets Trademark Da $kydiver and Young Roddy. It will retail for $8.99, hitting iTunes soon after the April 21 release.

In related news, Curren$y will be playing a show with another fellow XXL Freshman, Cory Gunz, tomorrow night (April 16) in New Orleans.
