College Students Protest Soulja Boy Concert
Posted: Monday - April 6, 2009 | Students at Minnesota University took to the picket lines on Friday (April 3) to protest a concert by Soulja Boy because of his "degrading" lyrics. According to reports, the rapper was paid over $25,000 to perform the sold out show but was met by a group of protesters upon his arrival. "WTF I'm in minnesota (sic) its a group of maf--kaz prtoesting (sic) my show," SB wrote on his Twitter before the show. "This sh*t is on all the news." Arielle Schnur, the student who organized the protest, said she decided to rally against the rapper and send a message to the school's entertainment committee because of his questionable lyrics. "This isn't OK for this to happen. To bring in an artist that degrades half the student body as sex objects and the other half as sexual perpetrators; that form of degradation is not acceptable," Schnur told an undisclosed source. "The issue with the Soulja Boy concert is that it's happening at UMD and UMD is an institution of higher learning. His lyrics are not conducive to an atmosphere of enlightment and education."
