Kanye West Meets "American Idol," Set To Make Appearence On Show
Rap star Kanye West has been selected to perform on next week's airing of Fox's "American Idol." The Chi-town emcee will grace the stage among other past "Idol" winners. Season 1 "Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson will perform her new hit single, "My Life Would Suck Without You," on March 11, during the Wednesday results show. In addition to Kelly, hip-hop star and 12-time Grammy Award winner Kanye West will also be on the "Idol" stage Wednesday, performing his hit single, "Heartless." (Access Hollywood) Most of the show's finalists and runner-ups have rose to fame since winning. The first six American Idol winners and runner-ups included Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis, Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice, Fantasia, Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken and Kelly Clarkson. (Star Tribune) Jennifer Hudson lost during the competition but was able to still become an Academy Award-winning singer. In 2004, she auditioned for and won a spot on the third season of American Idol along with eventual winner Fantasia Barrino. Though a strong contender and fan favorite from the start, Hudson would eventually become the sixth of the 12 finalists to get voted off the show. Hudson won a role in Dreamgirls and went on to receive not only critical acclaim for her performance, but also both a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. (All Music) The show is popular for placing amateur singers on a stage before judges. The competition is narrowed down to two finalists who compete for a major recording contract and the American Idol title.
