Notorious which grossed an estimated $21.5M from only 1,638 theaters. Averaging a sizzling $13,126, the R-rated story of the slain rap superstar gave Fox Searchlight the biggest debut in company history. It was also the best opening weekend average for a wide release since November's Twilight. Reviews were mixed for Notorious which attracted the multicultural fans of the late music star. Searchlight's choice of release date was no coincidence as it knew that a film about a popular African American entertainer would sell opening over Martin Luther King weekend, and just days before the Obama Inauguration.

if that shit was in the same amount of theaters as the other movies then it would have been #1 Easy

kinda fucked up how they do certain movies like that though but people stabbing each other and fighting don't help at all

yea i can agree with that to an extent. the movie wouldn't attract everyone though, and in certain markets there just aren't people who would go see a movie about a slain rapper...so its tough to get in every movie theatre like other movies
