Theater Suspends Notorious B.I.G. Biopic After Shooting, Film Rakes In Over $8 Milli On Opening Day

A North Carolina theater has suspended showings of Biggie's biopic Notorious after a man was shot at the venue last night (January 16).

According to The Associated Press, a 32-year-old man was shot twice during an argument at the Grand 18 theater on Friday and around 7:00 people were evacuated from the venue.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery and is believed to be in stable condition.

Brooklyn rapper Gravy (born Jamal Woolard), who portrays Biggie in Notorious, was at the theatre during the shooting. It is unknown if he had any role in the shooting.

A spokeswoman for the Grand 18 Theater said that customers who had tickets for the Friday showing of Notorious will receive refunds.

Notorious, which chronicles the life and untimely death of rapper Notorious B.I.G., opened in theaters nationwide Friday. The film came in at second place in the box office yesterday grossing an estimated $8.3 million despite being on just 1,638 screens.

The film's cast includes Derek Luke, Anthony Mackie and Angela Bassett.
