Jim Jones & Juelz Santana Bring Free Notorious Screening To Harlem

In celebration of Biggie’s biopic Notorious opening in theaters yesterday (1/16), Harlem’s own Jim Jones and Juelz Santana offered free admission for their hometown fans.

Both Jones and Santana, who grace the cover of the latest issue of XXL, felt very strongly about the flick that chronicles the life of one of rap’s most beloved icons. “I did it for hip-hop,” the Dipset capo said in a statement. “It’s as big as Obama’s being the first black president. This is part of our history in the urban community; Biggie was our first Obama.”

“This is my way of saying thank you to Big,” Juelz added. “I never got a chance to meet him, so this is me as a Harlem dude saluting a cat from Brooklyn, in a small but meaningful way. Jim and I figured that so many people in the hip-hop community would be going to the see the movie individually; if we can make it so that everyone sees it together, that’s a great thing.”

Occupancy filled up quickly at The Avail Harlem theater as only a few hundred seats were available.

In related news, Jones was recently appointed the new vice president of urban A&R at Koch Records, where his first release will be from Santana’s Skull Gang in Feb. Along with his new exec position, Jimmy is also gearing up for the premiere of his documentary This is Jim Jones at the Sundance Film Festival. The film, which was executive- produced by longtime associate Damon Dash, follows the rapper’s road to success. Both Juelz and Jones are also prepping an upcoming Byrd Gang movie. – Elan Mancini
