When Nas said that for his album, everyone pretty much agreed it was a stunt for his album, but when he said that there were a lot of bullshit hip hop albums dropping. It sparked a much needed debate in the hip hop community and there's been some great music made since then. Sales were going down long before Nas said hip hop was dead, but these rappers realizing the same shit musicians in other genres already get, you have to make good music for people spend their hard earned money.
