Akon Pleads Guilty To Harassment, No Jail Time For Singer

Multi-platinum selling singer Akon has pleaded guilty to harassment for tossing a fan off stage at a summer 2007 concert in New York.

According to USA Today, the Grammy nominated artist will reportedly serve no jail time but is required to serve 65 hours of community service and pay a $250 fine.

Akon was facing various charges including endangering the welfare of a minor, a misdemeanor and second-degree harassment.

As previously reported by SOHH, the Konvict Muzik labelhead was performing at WSPK's KFEST concert at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill when he was caught on camera grabbing a disruptive fan and throwing him into the audience.

No information has been released on when Akon will begin his community service. Attorneys for the entertainer were unavailable as of press time.

In related news, Akon's latest album Freedom hit shelves earlier this month and SOHH got the inside scoop on why fans may experience a more global appeal this time around.

"This record is more European than the norm and that's only because when I made this record I was actually touring in Europe," Kon told SOHH. "This whole album was made while I was on the tour bus. I just can't help but write about my surroundings and what I'm going through at that particular time."

Freedom debuted on Billboard's Top 200 at No. 7 selling over 110,000 copies.
