Soulja Boy Talks Creative Control, Responds To Toure

Earlier today Soulja Boy [click to read] sat down with Urb.com [click to read] to give his take on, among many other things, his sophomore album, his controversial interview with Touré and “Crank Dat’s” place in rap history.

After discussing his new role in the TV show Made, teaching kids how to dance to songs from his second album, he answered questions about his next release. As far as releasing in the fourth quarter this year Soulja Boy said, “I think I’m good, 50 Cent pushed his album back, Bow Wow pushed his album back and Plies is dropping same day, so I think I’m good.”

On iSouljaBoyTellem, Soulja Boy’s sophomore release, he explained he is working with such artists as Shawty Lo, Gucci Mane and Sean Kingston. “I’m doing everything myself, I wrote the whole album, I produced a lot of the album…but still worked with a bunch of producers and different artists, to tweek my sound…there’s lot of different feels on the album.”

When asked about his place in the rap game Soulja Boy explained that, “The type of music I do is different, the way I did it is different… I’m different from every other artist in the game right now.”

Earlier this month Touré spoke with HipHopDX [click to read] about the issue and said, “Let me be clear: I was looking into Soulja Boy's eyes when he said, 'Shout out to the slave masters. Without them we wouldn't be here to get this ice and tattoos.' He wasn't joking. That said, if he thinks shouting out the slave masters who owned, whipped, and raped our ancestors is funny, then that's even more alarming. Either way he's clearly not mature enough for a serious conversation."

Soulja Boy responded saying on Urb.com saying, “If a serious conversation is talking 'bout how I wanna die and all them type of questions he was asking me, I guess I ain't ready for that. Because the type of questions he was asking me, I didn’t feel comfortable answer those questions. I guess he right, I'm not on his level with those questions.” He went on to say, “Sometimes I don't think before I speak and I just blurt things out, and I gotta pay for it later. Sometimes it hurts me more than it helps me.”
