Queen Latifah & Jim Jones Join BET In Campaign to Register Voters

Written By Danica Dow

BET has tapped celebrities like Queen Latifah and Jim Jones to join in their nationwide effort to reach unregistered voters during their “Stand Up, Sign Up, Be Heard: The BET Voter Registration Day” special.

On Saturday (September 27th), BET will be broadcasting live from their headquarters in New York as well as during voter rallies in four key states throughout the country.

State Property rappers Beanie Sigel and Young Chris are confirmed to attend the rally in Philadelphia. Brandy and Ray J will be holding it down in Detroit, Michigan while The Clipse and DJ Khaled will be attending the rally in Norfolk, Virginia.

No celebrities guest have been confirmed for the Cleveland, Ohio rally but Queen Latifah will be anchoring the entire special in NYC and she’ll be joined by Jim Jones and popular gospel act Mary Mary.

BET will not only be registering thousands of people to vote but they’ll also be providing them with valuable voter registration information and using BET hosts, news correspondents and celebrity guests to teach the importance of actually showing up at the polls.

Terrance J of “106 and Park,” who will be co-hosting a rally in Philly, expressed how hard it is to get people into the election booths.

“There’s 8 million unregistered African Americans in the United States,” he told SOHH. “We have a lot of work to do with this year’s election and just because people get registered doesn’t mean they’ll go out there any actually exercise their right to vote.” “Stand Up, Sign Up, Be Heard” will be broadcast live on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. EST on BET and BET J. The special will re-air from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
