MTV Says They Will Be Pulling The Plug On 'TRL'

After more than 10 years running, MTV is set to close out their music-video showcase program "Total Request Live," or for short TRL, a spokesperson for Viacom said.

The elimination of the series will mark the end of MTV's top programs for airing new music videos. However, the network said it plans to bring its Friday-night series "FNMTV" back to air new videos on a more-permanent basis.

The channel says FNMTV is drawing more interest from viewers and record labels than "TRL" is these days.

"TRL" helps break pop acts like N'Sync and Britney Spears, and also helped push the careers of several hip-hop and R&B acts as well, and drew large crowds o fans outside its Times Square studio in New York when celebrity guests showed up for interviews.

After its longtime host Carson Daily left in 2003, things changed. Also, according to Variety, cancellation rumors began to swirl last year when "TRL" scaled back from five to four airings a week and its average viewership dipped below 400,000.

The show will culminate with a final video "countdown" in its finale, the MTV spokeswoman said.

TRL was ok when Carson was there back years ago, it was good when they had rappers on it, but the shit was way too pop and rock and shit. MTV sucks. BET sucks too, 106 is shit, but they wont get rid of that, its there main show, and young kids watch it. I think MTV should make a real hip hop show, fuck that Sucka free bullshit with Cipher, that sucks. I mean a real hip hop show, like Yo MTV Raps was, BET should have kept Tigga in the basement. I would watch a real hip hop show, fuck a countdown show, just show hot vids, bring rappers on, even if it was a late night show, uncut type shit, whatever, cause now its all pop, rock, RB or Wayne, and Kanye, shit sucks.
