Damon Dash Unlaces His Pro-Keds, Sneaker Company Opts For New Image
Written By Cyrus Langhorne Roc-A-Fella Records co-founder Damon Dash no longer has the licensing rights to popular sneaker company Pro-Keds as its’ corporation aims for a new image approaching their 60th Anniversary. Made popular within the New York hip-hop scene and branched outward by superstar athletes like Kareem Abdul-Jabar and Pete Maravich, the decision to remove Dash from his 2004 license was based on re-creating a new look. “We thank Damon for his partnership and efforts on the PRO-Keds brand over the past few years, and we look forward to re-launching the brand under the Stride Rite organization to maximize the brand’s full potential,” Stride CEO Greg Ribatt said in a statement. “We plan to tap our archives and re-issue the classic styles with fresh new design details, and to build on the brand’s vintage position with a new brand image.” The company expects to re-launch the new kicks in November 2008 with an emphasis on issuing “fresh materials, colors and other trend details” in addition to special limited-edition collections to celebrate the brand’s 60th anniversary. In related news, Dame and his wife Rachel Roy are reportedly on the verge of losing two of their Manhattan homes due to unpaid mortgage debts around $7.3 million. According to the Associated Press, the lawsuit, filed last week allege that both have failed to pay due amounts on their luxury Tribeca condos from January to August, which has resulted in the early steps of foreclosure proceedings. Eastern Savings Bank claims the couple agreed to make monthly payments of $78,500 on the properties. Reps for Dash were unavailable for comment at press time. Source: sohh
