Jennifer Hudson Talks Debut Album & Upcoming Movie Role

With hot publicity photos showing off her new "slimmed down" look circulating the Internet, two hit films on her resume, and a self-titled debut album featuring collaborations with Timbaland, Robin Thicke, The Underdogs, Diane Warren, and Christopher "Tricky" Stewart scheduled to hit stores September 30th, it seems Jennifer Hudson is still living the dream. In an exclusive interview with Yo! Raps, Academy Award-winning actress talks about her self-titled major label debut.



"I just wanted to take everyday situations and make music out of them," says Hudson. "It's about life's variety. I didn't want every song to be about a relationship so it's not like that. For example, Pocketbook is about my sassiness. I hope this album shows a bit about my personality. Everything is different; I don't like to be boxed in so I didn't have any limits strapped onto me. I didn't write so much for this particular project but next time around I definitely want to contribute more to my album."



The former American Idol contestant, whose last two films (2006's "Dreamgirls" and 2008's "Sex and the City") grossed more than a quarter of a billion dollars, also discussed her upcoming role in the film adaptation of Sue Monk Kidd's New York Times bestseller, The Secret Life of Bees.



"[The movie] will be coming out on October 17th of this year," Hudson reveals. "It's a very powerful film ... I act alongside Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah, Dakota Fanning and others. We're all extremely excited about this film and I can't wait for it to come out. I hope we all get to record something for soundtrack together because I'm a fan of Queen and Alicia."
