After putting in work in the underground for years, Atlanta's own Baby D is now ready to jump into the national spotlight with his new album, A-Town Secret Weapon. The ATLien spoke with SOHH about why he doesn't need to call himself the best and his latest solo offering.

Having been in the game for over a decade has made Baby D a veteran at an early age. With the experience under his belt, the 25 year-old rhyme spitter who's down with the Oomp Camp - the same crew that brought the world DJ Unk - is ready to step his game up on his new LP.

With his latest single, "I'm 'Bout Money" gaining momentum in Atlanta and across the country, D feels that the time is now for him to make his mark.

"We was looking for a banger for the album and it was just the [right] recipe," Baby D told SOHH of the single's origins. "It's going to be the new anthem for '08."

With guest appearances from fellow ATL residents Gucci Mane, Shawty Lo, Pastor Troy, Sean Paul of The YoungBloodz and Lloyd on the disc, Baby D is hoping that this album will catapult him from local legend to national sensation.

"This album right here is 'gon do what it's supposed to do," he says. "I'm expecting the unexpected. I'm giving my fans the opportunity to say, 'I told ya'll Baby D was tight.' All my fans have been staying down with me through putting out albums independently."

"This album is all new sounds and a whole new feel," he boasted. "It's probably my best creation ever."

The Atlanta MC also says that he's taking a broader approach with this record to appeal to potential fans outside of his hometown that may not yet know his name.

"Hip-Hop is bigger than Atlanta," he said. "This album is bigger than Atlanta."

And though he may not be limiting himself to just the ATL, he says that people in his city know who really puts in down there. With several rappers from his city claiming to be the town's best, D says he doesn't need any titles because the truth speaks for itself.

"I don't title myself because when you do that you put limitations on where you can go," he explained. "My fans and the people from Atlanta know the impact I put down for the whole crunk movement. Action speaks lounder than words."

"People go around saying 'I'm the A' or 'I'm the king' but your fans label you," he continued. "That's all I'm in it for, my fans. I run the A for real, I ain't gotta run around saying it. I never got into the title thing. Just like you give yourself that title, somebody's gonna try to take it away. It's too much that comes with that. Your fans will label you. That's how you get real, genuine love."

A-Town Secret Weapon is slated to hit shelves on April 29 via Koch Records.
