Remy Ma's future hangs in the balance as she awaits sentencing. A day after being found guilty, SOHH caught up with the Bronx rapper's defense attorney, Ivan Fisher, to find out how Remy is holding up.

"She's extremely upset," Fisher told SOHH. "She's calmer now, but she's broken hearted. She was crying and hugging me. She was crushed!"

The Grammy nominated rapper was convicted yesterday (Mar. 27) of shooting her former friend Makeda Barnes-Joseph in the abdomen last July, in a dispute over $3,000 Remy accused the victim of stealing. Remy wept as jurors handed down her guilty verdict of first-degree assault and weapon charges.

Judge Rena Uviller denied Fisher's request to allow Remy time at home before the April 23 sentencing and went on to order the Bronx-bomber to be jailed without bail.

"I disagree strongly with the verdict," Fisher said. "They were wrong."

Remy faces up to 25 years in prison. The stunned mother leaves behind her 8-year-old son, who she never told that she might be going to jail.

"I've spoke to her boyfriend and he's attempting to responsibly take care of the issues in Remy's life that were left unintended," Fisher said from his midtown office. "[Like] taking care of her son, figuring what to do with her house and stuff like that."

Fisher and his defense team plan to appeal the assault charges. "We got pretty strong issue for the appeal," he said. "We're hopeful we'll get her to trial and win."

Barnes-Joseph and her supporters celebrated yesterday upon hearing the verdict. The elated victim plans to re-file her $20 million dollar lawsuit, which she withdrew early in the trial

Despite the outcome of yesterday conviction, Fisher is confident that Remy will be able to pull through.

"Remy is a very strong woman and she's a very bright woman," he says. "Knowing her as I do, she's going to pull herself together and be okay."

Pulling a gun out and shooting your friend is not very bright. All this over $3,000 she could've made that back quick doing a show or something. When you have kids your not just living for yourself.
