Amy Winehouse Not In Rehab, Despite Reports
Tuesday - January 22, 2008 UK soul singer Amy Winehouse has not checked herself into rehab, despite early reports and recently being exposed on video allegedly doing drugs. People magazine has confirmed with Winehouse's rep that today (Jan. 22) that Wihehouse had checked herself into a rehab facility, she was actually just visiting a doctor. "Amy is not in rehab," said the rep. "She was seeing a doctor who she regularly sees as part of her ongoing treatment. It was a regular appointment which she attends all the time. She has not checked in overnight." Yesterday The Sun released a shocking video of the singer allegedly smoking crack. The footage shows the British singer at her home in east London talking to friends before lighting a glass pipe and inhaling. The video also captures Winehouse admitting she has taken six Valium to "bring her down." [Watch Here] This morning, Winehouse's father told UK's Evening Standard that the footage posted on The Sun website came as little surprise to him. "All that picture shows is what everybody knew anyway," Mitch Winehouse told reporters. "Yes, I am worried about her but this picture doesn't show anything we didn't already know before. It just shows me the tabloids are resorting to underhand tactics to expose her and we already know what the problems are." As SOHH previously reported, Winehouse's attendance at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards show was already in jeopardy since the singer would have reportedly been required to submit to drug testing in order to attain a visa to travel to the ceremony. She has been nominated for six awards, including Record Of The Year for "Rehab," Album of the Year for Back to Black and Best New Artist. Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige, recently weighed in on the younger talent. "Someone like Amy Winehouse is so important to the music business right now," Blige told Interview magazine. "It's very painful (to see her battle drugs). I hope she makes it. I think it (the music industry) kind of got lost and we ended up in a drought for a while, but I see it making a turn, so instead of music being just synthetic, we'll see it going back to actual instruments. That's what I'm hoping for anyway." Blige also battled issues with drugs and alcohol early in her career. Source-sohh
