Tech Website Calls Jay-Z/Apple Rumor Bogus

Crunchgear.com, a site that covers the latest technology/computer news, calls a bloggers’ assertion that former Def Jam CEO/President Jay-Z will create a record label with computer/tech powerhouse Apple a false rumor.

“The other labels would call shenanigans (rightly so, too) and jump ship, there would be federal trust issues at play, and more importantly, Apple is banned from ever starting a record label due to previous litigation with the Beatle’s Apple Records,” says author Matt Hickey, in response to the Boy Genius Report, which claims that “a high-up person attached to Jay” confirmed that the hip hop mogul and Steve Jobs will start a digital record label.

Hickey does say Jay-Z will likely launch his own label, and may even partner with Jobs in the process through an exclusive distribution deal. Jay-Z name-drops the storied Apple CEO in the intro of ‘Kingdom Come,’ (2006).

Jay-Z reportedly will remain an artist on the Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam/Universal Music Group roster despite vacating his presidential throne. The rapper recently opened another 40/40 Club Franchise in Las Vegas.
