Beyonce Wins Appeal In Copyright Infringement Lawsuit

Beyonce has won her appeal in the copyright infringement lawsuit in regards to her song "Baby Boy".

According to Marketwire.com, on December 21, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit upheld a 2006 decision dismissing a copyright infringement lawsuit brought against Beyonce Knowles and her co-writers in regards to her Grammy winning song "Baby Boy".

"It's unfortunate that we had to endure this long legal process but I am hopeful this decision will allow all of us that were involved to finally move on" said Beyonce about the court's decision.

Jennifer Armour (plaintiff) filed the lawsuit claiming her former manager had submitted a demo song to Matthew Knowles and Columbia Records in late February or early March 2003 and that portions of the songs ended up being used in the creation of Beyonce's recording "Baby Boy". It was learned during litigation that recording of Beyonce's "Baby Boy" was completed prior to the time Armour said she submitted the demo.

The court found that no reasonable person could find the two songs similar however the court's decision was upheld based on the grounds that Beyonce's song was recorded prior to Armour submitting her demo.

Defendants named in the lawsuit included Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Scott Storch, Robert Waller, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Hitco Music Publishing, TVT Music, and Notting Dale Songs.
