Soulja Boy Comments On Fruity Loops Production

Perhaps strange to some, Soulja Boy uses the same production tools as 9th Wonder. Both men have endorsed the computer program Fruity Loops, which has since changed its brand to FL Studio. The strictly-software based program has been a mobile-friendly, accessible way for both aspiring bedroom producers in all genres, as well as Grammy-level producers to capture their art.

Soulja Boy, freshly nominated for one such Grammy Award, spoke to HipHopDX about his technique and likeness of the program. "To be honest, it took me an hour to produce the 'Crank That' song - at the most," said the 17-year-old projected to go gold with his SouljaBoyTellEm.com debut. "Sometimes I just sit back...I can make a beat in my hotel room or I can make a beat in my dressing room, while getting ready for a show, and I can send it to Protools, and bam, get it right back recorded on my laptop. Then I can post it for all my fans to hear, see what I'm sayin'?"

"I have full creativity - when I want my snares to come in, when I want the beat to drop." Soulja Boy just finished shooting an animated, reportedly big-budget video to his third single "Yahhh." The video will premier this month.

lmao i didnt know he used fruity loops but i just checked and the 2 biggest most recognized sounds in that beat are STOCK sounds in FL 7. (or maybe FL 6 and 5 too?) i swear to god i just found em

the 1st is that like jamican like steel drum it sounds EXACTLY the same as the crank that song its call "PERC_Steeldrum_c5" in FL.

AND that Big Hit sound that loud shit like every 2 bars is also a fukin stock sound! Its 2 Actually i just tested it and its under the "Hits" section in the FL browser if you play "HIT_2" and "HIT_6" at the sametime it sounds JUST like that HIT in crank that. woooo...
