Twista Speaks Out Against Congress' Hearing On Misogyny In Hip-Hop

Chicago rapper Twista criticized Congress on Thursday (September 13) in his blog with Red Eye, an edition of the Chicago Tribune, after Congress recently announced that it will be having a hearing focusing on misogyny in hip-hop.

Congress has called on several hip-hop executives to be present at an upcoming hearing, which is being called "Imus To Industry: The Business of Stereotypes and Degradation."

"Once again hip-hop is taking the fall for Imus," Twista wrote in the blog. "Last time I checked Imus wasn't rapping at all and was on news radio."

Quick to come to hip-hop's defense, Twista is upset about hip-hop is still the center of the Imus controversy, and urges everyone to come to hip-hop's defense to avoid further blame.

"The solution isn't always just to give in and it's time for people to realize that hip-hop isn't the one that always needs to be blamed," the rapper continued.

The Chicago rapper also questioned why Congress doesn't focus on other issues of greater national importance rather than demonizing hip-hop.

"We've got troops still dying in Iraq, global warming, gas prices going way high and Congress is worried about hip-hop?" questioned Twista. "There are more examples of our own President saying stupider things than you could ever hear in any rap song. Maybe it's time he took a little trip to Congress and was asked a few questions as well then."

thanks for the news. Twista's been in the game a long time and he isn't afraid to speak his mind, so I'm not surprised that he would come out and say this. It seems like a lot of rappers are coming out to express interest in politics now.
