Diddy Surprises All With MTB4 Solo Signing:"[Donnie] Had Something Special"

Last night (August 26) fans across the country tuned in to watch Diddy whittle ten finalists down to a group in the "Making the Band 4" finale.

The hour long finale aired live on MTV and featured Bad Boy family members from the past, present and future, all in the studio to witness Diddy's "MTB 4" final eliminations.

In one of last night's many surprises Diddy announced that the group would have five members - Robert, Willie, Qwanell, Brian A. and Michael - instead of four, as previously expected.

"I wanted to have five beasts," Diddy told SOHH exclusively.

"Those guys are real aggressive," he added. "Their textures and the way they attack a song is real different and that's what I wanted. I wanted the chemistry to really flow together, sometimes you want to have something in there that's a little bit different."

Diddy also had some choice words for Michael, who was challenged to lose weight throughout the season.

"I don't want him to have to get down to 150 pounds and be trying to fit in," Diddy said of his decision to pick Mike. "I was just feeling that with Mike chosen -- to bookend Mike with two on this side two on the other, I thought that would be a great thing."

But the surprises didn't end with the making of the band. Diddy closed the show by announcing the decision to sign Donnie, the competition's lone white finalist, as a solo artist on Bad Boy Records.

"It definitely wasn't a race thing because ya'll seen what I did with Danity Kane," Diddy explained, when asked why Donnie wasn't included in the group. "I don't have no problem with mixing and matching and giving what the new America is about. [But] I thought that he had something that was special. The online voting for him was through the roof. I thought he has a level of sensitivity and passion that makes him unique and I thought he'd be better as a solo artist."

I wasn't surprised when he signed dude as a solo artist, he favored him throughout the whole season. But yeah like dude above me said they ain't really all that great IMO.

does any body remember the very 1st making the band when the only black contestant was cut when it got down 2 the last ten. this was never said on record but he was probaly cut because he could not fit in being the only black member in a all white group (O-Town). damn at least da white boy still got signed
