Ludacris Saves The World, "I'm Trying To Bring Awareness To A Major Problem"

Ludacris recently spoke to SOHH about his role as one among over 100 artists performing at this Saturday's (July 7) Live Earth concert, which will kick-off a campaign to help solve global warming.

"It feels great to be a part of it," Ludacris told SOHH. "I'm trying to bring awareness to the major problem that's going on in the world, and that's this global warming crisis. We've been aware of the issue since way back in the days, whether our parents were telling us to stop using so much water and turn it off when we're not using it, or turn off lights when we're not using them, but now it's more important than it ever has been."

Broadcast live from eight countries and seven continents, with concerts scheduled to take place in Australia, Japan, China, London, Brazil, South Africa, Germany, New York City and Washington DC. Live Earth will feature performances from Alicia Keys, John Legend, Pharrell Williams, Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West, Rihanna, Snoop Dogg, Shakira, Akon and others. Ludacris will be a part of the New York City lineup, performing at Giant Stadium.

Live Earth came about thanks to a partnership between former Vice-President Al Gore, Kevin Wall, Executive Producer of Live 8, and the Alliance for Climate Protection as a means of calling attention to the global warming crisis.

In addition to his role as a Live Earth performer, Ludacris has also teamed with Microsoft to help spread the message about simple changes we can all make.

"I'm lending my celebrity to what's going on to make people more conscious, but I'm also going through a learning process myself," Luda said. "I'm learning more and more about it. There are a lot of tips and simple things people can learn to help become a part of the solution. I'm switching my light bulbs out for fluorescent light bulbs. You can turn your thermostat down a degree, which makes a big difference. Turning the computers off at night and not just letting them sit, purchasing music online. I'm looking into getting solar panels."

The 24-hour concert will kick off in Australia tonight at 9:10 PM EST (11:10 AM Australia time) and can be watched live online from: . The site also features detailed information about the event, as well as important facts about global warming.
