Quick News on 50 Cent, Keith Murray and KFC

50 Cent made a surprise appearance at Boston radio station, JAM’N 94.5’s Summer Jam 2007 at the Tweeter Center yesterday (June 3). While 50 was not promoted on the concert’s bill, he showed up and performed some of his old classic, such as “What Up Gangsta,” as well as his new singles “Amusement Park” and “Straight to the Bank.” Jim Jones and Juelz Santana also performed at the concert, but according to the Boston Herald, no incidents of violence or backstage drama occurred between G-Unit and Dipset.

Keith Murray is returning with a new album on KOCH Records entitled Rap-Murr-Phobia. The album, his first since 2003’s He’s Keith Murray on Def Jam Records, will be released on July 31 and features guest appearances by Tyrese, Method Man, Redman and Erick Sermon. The Def Squad member will shoot a video in Los Angeles this month for the album’s lead single, “Nobody Do It Better,” a collaboration with R&B singer Tyrese.

KFC, one of the nation’s leading fast food chains, is collaborating with BET for a new contest entitled KFC’s Hitmaker. To celebrate Black Music Month this June, KFC is inviting aspiring artists and musicians to submit their best songs for what could become KFC’s new theme song for its Pride 360 campaign. The winning artist — who must incorporate the words individual, family, community, heritage and KFC into their song — will receive “a recording opportunity worth $5,000” and an appearance on BET’s Rap City. “During Black Music Month and through Pride 360, KFC celebrates the positive ways African-American music has contributed to and shaped American society,” says James O’Reilly, chief marketing officer for KFC. “Not only is the contest a great opportunity for us to celebrate our belief in the individual, family and community, more importantly, it’s also our chance to give an inspiring artist a shot at making a dream a reality.” Artists can submit their songs at .
