![]() Maroon 5, Rihanna Remain Atop U.K. Charts June 04, 2007 Maroon 5's "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" (Octone/A&M) started a second week atop the U.K. album chart yesterday (June 3), as "Umbrella" (Def Jam/Universal) by Rihanna featuring Jay-Z snagged a third week as the country's No. 1 single. The main challenge to Rihanna's supremacy came from former Sugababes member Mutya Buena, whose "Real Girl" (Fourth & Broadway/Universal Island) climbed 9-2 in its third chart week. Her album of the same name is released in the U.K. today. A female-dominated top three was completed by Beyonce & Shakira's former No. 1 "Beautiful Liar" (Columbia), which remains No. 3. Another previous chart-topper, "Give It to Me" (Interscope) by Timbaland featuring Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake, rebounded 8-7. Midlands rock outfit the Twang climbed 33-8 with "Either Way" (B Unique/Polydor) and Scottish DJ Calvin Harris scored a second top 10 hit as "The Girls" (Columbia) entered at No. 9. His album "I Created Disco" is released next Monday (June 11). There was a 38-12 climb for "Heavyweight Champion of the World" (Wall of Sound) by indie electro outfit Reverend and the Makers. Mims' U.S. hit "This Is Why I'm Hot" (Capitol) climbed 41-18, while Marilyn Manson's "Heart-Shaped Glasses" (Interscope) entered at No. 19. A much-publicized new version of the Who's "My Generation" by a collective of old-aged pensioners, collectively known as the Zimmers, charted at No. 26 on Xphonics. It was recorded to draw attention to public prejudice against old age by a group with an average age of 79. One member is 100 years old. The Maroon 5 album, which has two-week U.K. sales of 113,000 units, stayed ahead of Linkin Park's "Minutes to Midnight" (Warner Bros.) at No. 2 and a new entry at No. 3 for the Pigeon Detectives' debut set "Wait For Me" (Dance to the Radio). It includes the Leeds-based band's "I'm Not Sorry," which reached No. 12 on the singles chart last week. R. Kelly's "Double Up" (Jive) debuted at No. 10 on the album survey and Josh Groban's "Awake" (Reprise) re-entered at No. 12, a new peak following British concerts and TV advertising. Jeff Buckley's "So Real -- Songs From Jeff Buckley" (Columbia), released to mark the tenth anniversary of his death May 29, came in at No. 16 and Chris Cornell's "Carry On" (Interscope) arrived at No. 25. Veteran troubadour Richard Thompson also celebrated a top 40 album appearance as "Sweet Warrior" (Proper) arrived at No. 39. It's his 11th U.K. chart album over a span of 22 years, his fifth to reach the top 40 and first since "Mock Tudor" in 1999. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. keeps its lock on the top of European Top 100 Albums, as the composite survey continues to be led by Linkin Park, with former chart-topper Michael Buble's "Call Me Irresponsible" (Reprise) at No. 2 again. "Beautiful Liar" is in a fifth week at No. 1 on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles. Source-billboard
