04/24/07 - UK Rapper Dizzee Rascal Says Friends Once Tried To Kidnap Him

UK rapper Dizzee Rascal, who is known as a fave from the area's Grime scene, opened up during a recent interview, revealing that his own friends once plotted to kidnap him.

The rapper (real name: Dylan Mills) told the Observer Music Monthly during an interview that once he begin to top the charts, his friends plotted a kidnapping to profit from his success.

He said that they believed his record label, XL, would pay a sizable ransom for his return.

"When you start to make a bit of money, people switch on you," Dizzee told the Observer Music Monthly. "They get the wrong end of the stick.

"They think you're this or that, but really, it's just that they miss you. And because of the kind of people they are, they don't deal with it properly: they can only respond with violence," he continued.

Dizzee details the situation in a new song called "Paranoid" that will appear on his forthcoming album, Maths And English.

The new album is scheduled for release in June.
