Sole Power Productions out of Canada has plans to set records and save lives for its upcoming event entitled Breakin' for Cancer. Working with Alicia Keys, James Brown, Al Green, Black Eyed Peas, Sean Paul, John Legend, Nelly Furtado, and more, a conglomerate of powerhouse DJs, musicians, and dancers make Sole Power Productions, The idea for the event started when the father of Sole Power Dancer Bboy Troy (aka "Whiplash"), who has worked with Talib Kweli, K-os, and Our Lady Peace and dances for the Toronto Raptors, passed away from liver cancer earlier this month. Troy and Sole Power President, Abby Tobias, became the key producers for the event, which will be held March 23 at the Vaughan Mills Shopping Centre in Ontario. All proceeds and donations will go toward the Canadian Caner Society to help families dealing with loses from cancer.
Breakin for Cancer hopes to bring attention to its cause by trying to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest break-dance circle. As part of the terms of the record, six to twelve dancers will have to dance in the circle constantly for over 24 hours. Suresh Joachim, who holds over 39 Guinness Book records, will be one of the dancers donating his time for the event. DJs from the Scratch Lab Institute, Canada's first DJ school, including DJ Starting From Scratch (Flow 93.5fm), Baba Kahn (three time DJ of the year), Jr Flo (World I.T.F champion), and DJ Grouch (North American Turntable champion, Melanie Durrant) will be spinning for the full day as well. Flow 93.5 FM will also give full coverage of the event held in the mall's food court for all passers-by to see. Sole Power is currently seeking donations to meet its $20,000 goal. Contact Amy Linton from the Canadian Cancer Society at 416 638 0771 or send a check made payable to the "Canadian Cancer Society RE: Breakin' For Cancer" to 620 Wilson Ave, Ontario, M3P 3K9 to make a contribution. source-soundslam
