02/26/07 - Breakdancers Unite for Charity, Attempt To Set World Record

Plans are underway for Hip-Hop history to be made next month with Breakin' for Cancer, a charity breakdancing event organized by Sole Power Productions that aims to land in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest breakdance circle.

To achieve the record, six to 12 dancers must breakdance for at least twenty-four hours consistently during the event, which will take place from 3 p.m. Mar. 23 to 3 p.m. Mar. 24 at the Vaughan Mills Shopping Centre in Vaughan, Ontario.

In addition to the world record, Breakin' for Cancer will be held in memory of Sole Power and Toronto Raptors Breakdance squad member B-Boy Troy's (aka "Whiplash") father Warren Arnold Feldman, who died earlier this month from liver cancer.

The event will feature some of Canada's top dancers as well as music from the Scratch Lab DJ Institute and DJs Starting From Scratch, Baba Kahn, Jr Flo and Grouch.

Sole Power will also join forces with Suresh Joachim, who has 39 Guiness world records to his credit.

Joachim will compete in the event as one of the dancers featured in Breakin' for Cancer.

Organizers are seeking financial donations and sponsorships from individuals and organizations to reach their goal of $20,000 to help pay for expenses.

Proceeds from the event, which will be broadcast live March 24 on FLO 93.5FM, will go to the Canadian Cancer Society and families in need of funds due to a loss from cancer.
