02/26/07 - Ludacris Loses Father To Illness

Ludacris, born name Christopher Bridges, lost his father and mentor Wayne Bridges yesterday morning, February 25th in Atlanta, Georgia.

This unfortunate event came two weeks after Luda won two Grammys for Best Rap Album, Release Therapy, and Best Rap Song, Money Maker.

During his acceptance speech, the rapper thanked his father and mentioned his illness, also noting that he was watching from his hospital bed.

Father Bridges made frequent appearances for his son's Ludacris Foundation, which is ran by his mother Roberta Shields. He also appeared in the video for "Grew Up A Screw Up."

"He introduced me to all of my major musical influences. He bought me my first hip-hop record when I was five years old," Ludacris told Allhiphop.com. "I'm celebrating his life knowing that he has moved on to a better place and I will continue to make him proud."
