02/26/07 - Redman Goes Wild With New LP

Redman's new album, Red Gone Wild, is planned for release on March 27th. Red's presence in the music scene has died off since his hit single "Let's Get Dirty" five years ago off of Malpractice. But apparently the time off has been well spent and productive for Redman. He stated, "I got a whole crew I've been working on the last three years and we've been building up material." Redman's new crew is called Gilla House Movement. "Gilla is short for gorilla. I like gorillas. Everybody knows that I'm a gorilla since my first album, so I just shortened it," he cited.

Redman, born Reggie Noble, has an ambitious philosophy behind the album that makes strong promises to anticipating fans, citing, "What does Gilla mean? Gilla means over the top. Everything is off the rocker; everything has to be Gilla." Redman also named a diverse list of crew members for Gilla House, including E3 (Ellis III), Melanie from Michigan, Saukrates from Canada, Icarus from Brooklyn, Ready Rock, and Runt Dog, who is currently serving time in prison.

Redman also plans to expand the group, "We're going to be recruiting more Gilla House members after we get this first load off." Snoop and Nate Dogg, as well as Eminem mark some of the guest artists on the LP. Ludacris and Ghostface Killa were also named as part of the album in a 2005 solicitation, but its unclear whether they are on the final product.

Although there were some rumors that Redman had planned to leave Def Jam, Red Gone Wild will release on the label as planned. But the Soopaman Luva admitted that Def Jam has been in transition since Jay-Z became president, saying, "I don't make any excuses for where I'm at because of some other man. I'm not making no other man be blockage of my money. So how is Jay-Z running the label? You got to think to yourself, 'Hey could you do it better?' And I'm like, 'Eh, it's his first time running a label, and in the next year or so, he'll smooth it out.'"

Redman also has another upcoming release planned for November '07, entitled Muddy Waters 2. As the title suggests, the album marks a return to the sound on Red's original Muddy Waters. "The Muddy Waters 2 is me kinda taking it back to old-sounding beats," Redman said the Denver Post. "I want to give you some of that Redman flavor you've been missing, that old grungy sh*t for my fans. I'm really doing this for my fans."
