Alabama is getting put on the hip-hop map, with the debut of Rich Boy, who is the first hip-hop artist from Mobile, Alabama to sign a major-label record deal -- namely with Interscope.
His first single, "Throw Some D's," has garnered heavy anticipation for his self-titled debut, topping the Billboard singles charts and music video playlists on BET and MTV2. The success of the original spawned a popular, star-studded remix, which features multi-platinum artists Andre 3000, Nelly, The Game, Jim Jones, and Murphy Lee. The rapper is already heading into his second single, "Boy Looka Here," produced by Polow Da Don, the man behind hits from Fergie, Ciara, and Ludacris. Rich Boy plans to shoot a music video for the new track in his hometown during Mobile's Mardi Gras celebration on Monday (February 19th). He's holding an online contest via his myspace webpage (MySpace.com/RichBoy) to find Lil Miss Alabama, a girl from Alabama that Rich will choose to make an appearance in the clip. "It's crazy," said the 21-year old Rich Boy. "The support I'm getting for this record is unbelievable. I can't wait to take it all back home for the new video." The video shoot launch will mark the beginning of a hectic few months for the young rapper. After performing at BET's NBA All-Star Weekend Party at the Hard Rock Café in Las Vegas, he will hop on a nationwide tour with Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Jim Jones, and Juelz Santana. His self-titled debut will feature production from Lil Jon, Manny Fresh, and Needlez, in addition to Polow Da Don, as well as guest spots from David Banner, singer/songwriter John Legend, and vocalist Keri Hilson. The album is slated for release March 13. |
