01/03/07 - RZA's "Afro Samurai" TV Show Hits The Net

"Afro Samurai," Spike TV's animated series, featuring Samuel L. Jackson and The Rza, recently premiered online.

As previously reported, Samuel L. Jackson incarnates the main character Afro, a black samurai who searches for his father's killer. The series is based on a Talashi Okazaki novel of the same name. The soundtrack, which is overseen by The RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, will also feature cuts from the extended Wu family. RZA also produced an original score for the show which will be included in the soundtrack.

"As a fan of martial art and old Japanese Samurai movies, I have always wanted to be a part of such creativity and to have my own spice added is even better," said RZA via a statement. "Many hip-hop artists and musicians from the late '80s to now have been inspired by this form of entertainment, and today's animators have been stimulated by hip-hop. But, usually these two forms of expression never meet in the same realm of artistry.

"Afro Samurai" premieres tomorrow (January 4) on Spike TV, while the soundtrack, which is on Koch Records, will hit shelves on January 16.

i think that show can go very far. the voicing is great and the fighting is good. i want to see how him and the ninja dude met. i bet the ninja can beat some ass.

They've made a black cartoon on Kids WB, but mad people slept on it because of the Stereotypers. Afro Samuri by the way is an Anime though.

You just welcomed me to the future, and I mean the present. I understand that but I just want to let people know that Murder Inc was Hip Hop too since some dude has "G-Unit Is Hip Hop" on his Signature. He's letting people know that G-Unit was Hip Hop. Afraisian Show that's bout to be out on DVD on May 22, 2007 by FUNimation, the Studio that sells Anime such as Dragon Ball Z, and Yu Yu Hakusho. It's a hot show according to what I saw. Word up.
