11/29/06 - Snoop Dogg Arrested On Drug & Gun Charges Again

Snoop Dogg was arrested on drug and gun charges outside the NBC studios in Los Angeles after taping a performance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" yesterday (November 28).

According to The Associated Press, Snoop (born Calvin Broadus) and two members of his entourage, Michael Mingo and Lovell Polk, were arrested after authorities executed a search warrant on the rapper's vehicle.

Police said they soon discovered marijuana, a firearm and cocaine in a false compartment in the car. Snoop was then arrested and charged as a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and illegal drugs.

Mingo and Polk, who are acknowledged gang members, were also charged and taken into custody. Mingo was arrested for investigation of possessing burglary tools and Polk was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

"He was in a car pulling out of the studio when police stopped him," Donald Etra, Snoop's lawyer told the Associated Press. Etra revealed Snoop made bail of $60,000 and was released shortly after 1 a.m. today (November 29), about seven hours after his arrest.

"As of this point, he stands innocent of all charges," Etra emphasized. "The goal tonight was to get him out of jail. The goal tomorrow is to deal with the case."

Snoop is expected to be arraigned on January 11.

The aforementioned search warrant stemmed from an investigation that followed Snoop's arrest at Bob Hope Airport in October after airport police said they found a gun and marijuana in his car.

No charges have been filed in that case but Broadus has a Dec. 12 court appearance for an arraignment.

Snoop also has also has a Dec. 4 arraignment in Orange County following his Sept. 27 arrest for investigation of carrying a deadly weapon at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana.

In related news, Snoop recently filed a lawsuit against his former label, Priority Records, last week for $2 million in royalties. According to the New York Daily News, Snoop alleges since EMI took over Priority, they have failed to honor contracts. A rep at the label had no comment on the suit.
