Well what do you know? A label doing some creative marketing for an album! In support of their highly anticipated new record Hell Hath No Fury, (11/28/06), Clipse are looking for the finest emcee to drop a freestyle on their next mixtape, We got it 4 cheap vol. 3: The Spirit of Competition.

Keeping true to that competitive spirit, they’ve asked that HipHopDX readers throw down against XXLonline, Ballerstatus, and CrackSpace to see which site’s readers bring the most lyrical fire. So y’all better represent!

Go to and register to represent HipHopDX.com, then record a video of your best freestyle over one of the provided Clipse instrumental downloads and upload it. Please note to qualify you must rhyme over one of the provided instrumentals. Video uploads won’t be available until 11/27, but make sure you register today and start getting your video ready! On why the Mic Battle contest is a great way to reach fans:

"Tapping the net is a great way to reach fans because we feel that u are reaching the truest form of music lover. This promotion caters to the hungry, searching, passionate fan and gives them an outlet to express themselves and be a part of the music they love."

Advice to MC's:

"Be careful what u wish for, music can be a frustrating and tedious game. It is only for those with a TRUE love of music."

On how to craft a great freestyle:

Honesty - if the listener can feel the honesty, u will lock them in.

Metaphors - the better u draw parallels, makes the verse more memorable.

Cohesion - Make the freestyle make sense!

i think thats neat for them to do that..me and my friend made a remix to u dont know and i was spitting he was like damn that was tight..he told me..u should rap.. he likes to make cds for fun using cool edit
