10/24/06 - Snoop Dogg Caught With Weapon, May Face Charges

After an incident last month in which authorities discovered a weapon among Snoop Dogg's luggage as he attempted to board a New York-bound flight, the rapper may now be facing charges according to reports.

According to the Associated Press, Snoop (born Calvin Broadus) may be facing charges by prosecutors after authorities discovered a 21-inch collapsible baton in his bag. The West-coast MC had the baton in his laptop case as he went through a security checkpoint at John Wayne International Airport on Sept. 27, sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said.

While the rapper was not initially arrested in the incident, he was detained temporarily due to the discovery. The Doggfather told sheriff's deputies that the baton was merely a prop for a movie that he was shooting in New York.

'He had a collapsible baton and it is classified as a dangerous weapon," Amormino said, describing that the stick collapsed to eight inches. District attorney spokeswoman Susan Kang Schroeder said that her office received the sheriff's report about the incident on Monday and added that prosecutors had not yet decided whether to charge Snoop Dogg at present time.

The incident is not the first time that Snoop has had a run in with authorities at an airport. As previously reported by SOHH, in May, Snoop accepted responsibility for using "threatening words or behavior" in an April brawl at Heathrow Airport in London.

Snoop Dogg and five other men were arrested on charges of violent disorder and starting a brawl after members of the rapper's entourage were denied entry to British Airways' first-class lounge. Seven officers received minor injuries in connection with the event and the airline has since banned the rapper from future travel with the company.
