Recently I was given the chance to catch up with K. Sparks and get an exclusive interview. Right below is my one on one with K. Sparks, Enjoy.
![]() YNotMyDream: What up K hows it going fam, let us know how you been? whats new? K. Sparks: Everything is great fam, I'm working non stop to raise the bar musically. YNotMyDream: You working on anything new.. tracks, mixtapes, videos, ect..? K. Sparks: Presently I'm working on my album Super Senior being sponsored by DJ Booth, 2 Dope Boyz, and Kevin Nottingham. I'm also working on 2 other album projects. Positive Over Negative with DJ Bobby Bob. And Soul Food with Pajozo. Both projects have a real Hip Hop sound/feel. I am also working on a music video for Abstract Jazz, which is a song from Positive Over Negative. The director is Eduardo Donoso. He's a talented director on the rise that previously directed my documentary. As far as mixtapes, I'm always dropping those often. None in particular slated as of yet, but they will be coming shortly. Also, I just released an album with T Mos and Mark Henry entitled DC2NY as well as Manic Mondays Volume's 1 through 3 with my fam Mixtape Assassin. If anyone didn't get it be sure to check that out. YNotMyDream: Now that we are talking about your music. You recently came off your Manic Mondays series, what kind of feedback did you get off that? and how much more did it help as far as making people more aware of who you are? K. Sparks: Manic Mondays was a platform for me to show people what I am capable of musically. I've been in the underground for years, but Manic Mondays took my career from average to being in the fore front of the underground. The feedback has always been great, and it just further solidified what I do in this industry. I've been writing songs for Hip Hop and R&B artist for years, but Manic Mondays was able to really showcase my versatility. Even if a singer is on my song 9 times out of ten I wrote the hook and referenced it for them to sing. I'm very versatile, and very shortly people will get to see my wide range of talent. Also, I really wanna thank my fam Cartel from Hoodgrown, and DJ Z from DJ Booth.net for their support because since day 1 of Manic Mondays they've been supporting my music. It's rare that you find individual's in this industry that actually support and they are definitley real people. YNotMyDream: Can we expect another series anytime soon? K. Sparks: I'm retired from series. It served it's purpose. Manic Mondays was inspired by Crooked I's The Hip Hop weekly. Once I saw the response Crooked I received I knew that I could commit to the task as well because of my vast relationships with producers. My laptop is like a beat factory. I get blessed with beats every day. So making the material was never an issue. But like I said, it served it's purpose and now it is time to move forward. YNotMyDream: I noticed that you have been dropping track after track since Manic Mondays ended. Was the series a big momentum? whats the reason behind not slowing down? Big props to you for that by the way. K. Sparks: Thanks, Manic Mondays was a big momentum in terms of helping my buzz on the internet grow. However prior to Manic Mondays I always had the drive to make music 24/7. My catalog consit of over 300 original songs. So when people see me dropping music weekly even after Manic Mondays they think "wow, k sparks is a beast!". But realistically this isn't anything new. I have my own recording studio so I crank out quality music on the daily. The Definition album I previously did with Pajozo was recorded in less than a day. I'm known to do albums in a few hours. I record quick and effectively. As far as my reasoning behind not slowing down. Persistance wears down resistance, therefore I continue to release music weekly. My buzz is great, however there are still barriers that have yet to be broken...they will be very shortly. Artist have told me "hey, you put out too much music". That's the most retarded thing I've ever heard. I'm an Indie artist that operates my own Record Label (Double Up Entertainment) therefore there is no such thing as putting out too much music. I've released 6 albums on iTunes and will not be slwoing down anytime soon. YNotMyDream: What kind of feedback have you gotten on the tracks you have dropped since the end of the series? K. Sparks: The feedback has been great. I constantly get E-Mails from fans that purchase my music and appreciate it. It's a great feeling. YNotMyDream: Now I want to jump into one of your previous tracks which I like to keep on blast, Take Em' High. What was your whole mind set on that joint? and What was it like to work with KiD CuDi? K. Sparks: Take Em High was recorded at my studio in Queens New York. Cudi came through and we layed it down. That song is a classic. I think during that time all the elements worked perfectly. Our vibes matched well on the track and we created something special. Fans always ask me about that song and tell me how much they love it. That's what matters most to me. YNotMyDream: Are you planning on any other big Collabs anytime soon? K. Sparks: Yes. I have a lot of big things in the works. But I don't speak on things until they materialize. YNotMyDream: I know you from NY but do you mess with the Chi at all or the Midwest? Are you planning on coming to Chicago anytime soon? K. Sparks: Mos def, I got love for the Chi. One of my DJ's (DJ Killa P) is from the Chi. I've always been a fan of Chicago emcees such as Twista, Common. and Kanye. I should be coming out there shortly for business. YNotmyDream: I asked you if you were working on any tracks, Tapes & videos but I forgot to ask you about events. Hows that looking you holding down NY with any events? Do you have any coming up? K. Sparks: Most of the events I do are out of state. New York is a very funny market. I essentially had to take my music out of the New York market in order for it to come full circle. As far as events, tour dates are coming shortly in Barcelona Spain to promote Positive Over Negative with DJ Bobby Bob. YNotMyDream: Where do you plan on being in the upcoming years? where exactly do you want to be as far as the music? K. Sparks: I will be in a position to help other artist. My ultimate goal is to secure major distribution, release 3 classic major distributed albums and then fall back behind the scenes. I'll continue writing for artist. But ultimatley I want to help new artist find their sound. Most Indie artist say "I want to be succesful one day". Realistically speaking I am already succesful. I've released 6 albums, been featured on over 100 mixtapes, and performed all over. All the other things that follow are blessings on top of the many blessings I've already recieved. YNotMyDream: As far as the fans go, what kind of responses do you get back from them? K. Sparks: The fans always give me positive responses everywhere I go and show love. One day myself and my friend/engineer Drew were out and this kid walks up to my car and says "yo...your a rapper right...sparks?" He shook my hand and kept it movin. I often go places and people always show love even when I'm not expecting the attention. I appreciate all of my fans. YNotMydream: before I wrap this interview up now that we are talking about the fans. If you could say one thing to them what would you say? K. Sparks: Persistance wears down resistance. Always pursue your dreams, and never let anyone tell you that you can't do something. YNotMyDream: Ok well if you want to give shout outs to any supporters go for it bro. K. Sparks: Props to you and your website, I wish you much success. Shout out to my entire team. Model Reicha, Big Drew, Dave Barz, Mixtape Assassin, DJ Killa P, DJ King Flow, DJ Ophax, DJ Pimp, DJ PLK, Cartel, Julius Francis, Pajozo, Bobby Bob, Eduardo Donoso, T Mos, Mark Henry, Maine, JD, DJ Z, Kevin Nottingham, Shake and Meka, Tiffany Wells, and every single fan, blog, website, and DJ that supports. Peace YNotMyDream: As we wrap this up I just want to thank you for the opportunity of letting me interview you. Its been real, hope to keep hearing the best from you. Talk to you soon bro, take care and peace.
