Default Tony Yayo - Aceyalone Interview

Tony Yayo - Aceyalone Interview

You’ve been relatively quiet lately, especially when 50 was going at it with Rick Ross. Was it hard staying that quiet?

Well, you know, I started looking at it like we beat him and he didn’t even know he was beat. You had the sex tape out there and all that. I felt like he lost already. And then people said what’s up with the music. Well, I got the Swine Flu mixtape coming out, Volume 1 and 2, with Superstar Jay and Whoo Kid. 50’s got his new joint produced by Dr. Dre, “Okay”, out. Banks got his joint out, a double CD. We’re putting music out there and material out there. But you know, I was kinda quiet. I was watching what Rick Ross was doing and the moves he was making. To me, he didn’t win the battle because his baby’s mother was on the internet having sex with some other guy.

I feel like the 50 Cent/Rick Ross beef got kind of boring after the first week or so. Do you feel the same way?

I feel like when Fif stopped answering him, it got kind of boring. 50’s an entertainer. He did the Pimpin’ Curly and when he stopped going in on him, it got kind of boring. I can’t say the battle was boring because there wasn’t anything else going on in hip-hop and the media besides Chris Brown and Rihanna. When that happened, all hell, shit, everything hit the fan.

Can G-Unit still ruin and end careers?

I feel like we ruined Rick Ross’ career. I mean, you could have the No. 1 record in the country, but he had a 68% drop in the next week. Nobody likes a cop. The guy’s a cop at the end of the day. People always try to diss G-Unit but you got a C.O. right in front of your face. And he admitted that he was the guy in the picture. I’m not gonna beef with the police. There’s no winning with that. He’s a cop.

What do you think of the fans defending him?

He’s a C.O. So when he does all the “Rest in Peace Curtis” and all that, that’s fake to me because if it all goes down, he’s licensed to carry. I’m not licensed to carry nothing. I’m in the streets. This guy’s a cop. He’s the police. So anybody who enjoys his music and believes what he’s saying about the breaks and he met his connects from being a cop, they can believe that. I don’t believe none of that shit. At the end of the day, he’s living in a façade. Your homies is living with their mamas at the end of the day and you’re a bum and Tia exposed him at the end of the day.

Obviously not all rappers can do everything they say they do, but how much of what rappers say should be real?

With me, I’m not glorifying what I do or “I do this.” I know how the industry is. It’s a cutthroat industry. A lot of rappers say they did this and say they did that but right now, credibility doesn’t really mean anything in rap. If you put out good music, you’re good. A couple of years ago, street cred was what it was. Now it really doesn’t mean nothing. All you gotta do is make a hit record. I’m being honest with you. He flat-out told you he was the police and he’s rapping about bricks.

Yayo will tell you, shit, I wasn’t a nigga that was fucking with bricks but I was in the streets hustling. I wasn’t the biggest hustler out there but I was in the streets. If you go to Queens some customers will still know me.

But I’m not glorifying none of that. My life changed. I don’t have time for none of these niggas. Before I Self-Destruct, 50’s album, is coming out and my mixtape is coming out, Swine Flu, hosted by Macazo. He’s one of the realest niggas from Miami and he’s on the phone telling me Rick Ross is an imposter. Shout out to Macazo and Jolly Green.

I got a nigga who’s doing life in jail calling me on the phone and hosting my new mixtape. It comes out on ThisIs50.com. That shows you everything right there, all the “Yo, we can’t go to Miami and niggas don’t got the pass.” Nah. I got street niggas calling my phone, Macazo, live from Dade County, telling me that Rick Ross is an imposter. You can put that in the headlines of this interview – Macazo calls Rick Ross a fuckin’ imposter. The real street niggas call my phone. The proof is in the pudding. The real niggas call me to see what’s good. All these niggas, man, they want to call my phone to see what’s good. So look out for that new mixtape hosted by Macazo. Fuck Rick Ross. Swine Flu.

How much of Swine Flu is you going at Rick Ross or are you past that at this point?

I mean, you know, it’s music but it’s a shot at Rick Ross because Macazo’s hosting it and he’s calling Rick Ross an imposter. He’s claiming he’s down with certain guys. Nigga, Macazo called my phone and said you were an imposter. Macazo is hands down one of the realest niggas in Miami besides Trick Daddy and them niggas. Come on, Trick Daddy exposed you. You said Trick Daddy had AIDS and he had lupus. Come on. One of my friends has lupus. This guy is crazy. Then he do the “R.I.P. Curtis” thing. Rick Ross don’t want no problems with us. I don’t think nobody in this industry wants problems with us because you don’t have the strength and you don’t have the resources to fight with a nigga like me. I’m so used to it. The K.A.R. and Pistol Pete and Fat Joe, they did 250 copies. Why isn’t nobody talking about that shit? That whole circle of Khaled and…me and Khaled had a situation in a Miami radio station and it almost got ugly.

It’s like, I don’t like none of them niggas. That’s why I fell back from Buck. Me and Buck’s issue was that Buck always wanted to do something with Khaled and I looked at him funny and shit almost got ugly in that radio station. The industry is cutthroat and a lot of these people are fakes. That’s what it all boils down to. Rick Ross is a phony and a fake and hopefully people who buy his shit realize that. It’s fucked up though.

Have you spoken to Young Buck at all in the last few months?

Nah, nah, nah. I don’t fuck with Buck. I got a good heart but I’m not gonna let a snake bite me twice. I’ll let it maybe bite me once but never twice. Buck is a snake.

What kind of music can we expect on Swine Flu?

Oh, man, I’m shooting for the streets. I got the new joint “They Hate.” It’s crazy. It’s talking about the bloggers and about how people hate for no reason on the computer. The video is crazy. Hopefully you can put it on HipHopGame. And that’s the kind of music I’m making, man – good music, street music. That’s what Yayo is. I’m the streets.

Do you think fans are starting to have more respect for you as an MC as well?

Of course. And I’m gonna tell you why – because everybody likes something that’s new. There’s nothing like that new energy. That’s all that comes down to. People, just, to me, fans are the biggest critics. They like you one day, then they hate you the next day and then you can make them like you again. But that’s with everything.

Do you pay attention to fans who say G-Unit is done?

Of course I pay attention to that because that right there is people trying to ruin a brand. Game and Buck and all these guys that was down with us, they tried to start the G-Unot stuff and G-Unit fell off so people in the industry could say that we fell off. 50 could do 749,000 his first week and that’s a flop to people. I don’t understand that. I don’t know. T.O.S., we did 93,000 the first week and everybody’s been in the 100’s their first week anyway, so it’s not like we’re upset about that and we didn’t hardly have any promotion and we still did our thing. I think there’s more pressure on G-Unit because we’ve sold so many records. People say G-Unit is done and G-Unit’s not selling. My album went gold and I felt like that wasn’t good enough but that was great when I really look at it.

How’s your sophomore album coming?

I don’t have a title yet. I’m just working on the mixtape and delivering the mixtapes. Right now I’m dropping Swine Flu 1 and Swine Flu 2. Hopefully y’all can give me some good comments on there because I’m a big fan of your website.

Thanks. I heard a rumor that your album would be titled I Am 50’s Tax Write-Off. Is that title dead?

That was something that I was thinking about. But I might drop a mixtape called that.

A lot of rappers would shy away from a title like that yet it seems you embrace that role in interviews and music. Why?

Everybody’s a critic. Opinions are like assholes, everybody’s got one. I could think of one thing one day and the next day it doesn’t mean anything. Let me explain something to you. I make good money fucking with 50 Cent. He’s a good friend of mine. A lot of people say things like, ‘Yayo’s all in 50’s ass’ and Yayo this and Yayo that and all this gay shit. Those are the niggas with no money and they’re broke so I could care less what another rapper thinks or what a producer or C.E.O. thinks because a nigga ain’t helped me do shit. I’m not mad.

With the internet, there’s even more opinions. It is what it is, man. Everybody’s not going to like Yayo and some people will like me. I really don’t care what people think. Truthfully, I really don’t give a fuck. I was calm for a minute. I was relaxing but I see niggas in the cut with a whole lot of bullshit, like Rick Ross. I wanted to see what his record sales would be like and now we’re going to finish you ‘cause you’re still talking, talking all this monkey shit when you look like an elephant with titties. You know what I mean? Tia’s been telling me everything about me. William and Richard, Triple C’s. Kevin and Richard? That’s their names? Those niggas is clowns. When you hear that Swine Flu come out, that’s going to tell you the rest of the pieces of the puzzle. That’s going to tell you how Yayo’s on it. I’m back in the streets.

It was kind of boring with you being quiet.

I know. I got boring. But it’s time to make myself relevant again. I let niggas pop shit for a minute. I’m not even gonna front. But I’m back. I’m back. So when you hear the Swine Flu, that’s the beginning of my motion film. How do you say it? Excuse me, motion picture shit on Rick Ross. You never know who I might have host. I might have his mama host my next mixtape. You never know. Niggas got tricks up their sleeve. We’re going to finish him and then we’re going to see who’s next, whoever wants a problem. The thing with the Unit, a lot of people think we start beef with people to sell records. There wasn’t no album out with this beef. His album was out. It’s not a trick to sell records. We make good records at the end of the day. That’s it. That’s what it comes down to.

Is there anyone in the game that you think the Unit couldn’t take down?

Oh, man, there’s a lot of people we couldn’t take down. Russell Simmons. (laughs) There’s a lot of people with power in the industry. We’re not bullies, man. Rick Ross started talking about me. He called me Phony Yayo. He said I sniffed coke and I smoked crack. I didn’t say nothing about him first. But you beat up a journalist. It’s not like Vlad TV was a vigilante with a camera. The guy was a journalist. He asked you a question. Were you a C.O? So why didn’t you answer Big Boy when he asked you in L.A. if that was you in the picture? He didn’t want to hear nothing but if that was you in the picture. Why didn’t you beat up him? Why didn’t you beat up Flex? But you beat up Vlad TV ‘cause he asked if you was a C.O. ‘cause you were a cop? This guy is phony baloney, man.

To me, he was corny from the beginning so all the people that looked at him like he was ill, that’s them. I don’t look at him as an ill nigga. He was a C.O. I did time on the Island. Nigga, please. And you can ask Puff Daddy’s bodyguard. He was in there with me. It is what it is, man. Niggas know I be everywhere. I been in Miami. I be out there. But you already know, man. Life is great and I’m not worried about these niggas. Swine Flu is coming out and I got Boosie on there and Jolly Green, Macazo’s artist from Miami. And on Swine Flu 2 I got Hell Rell and a couple of other people on there.

Have you ever wanted to beat up a journalist for a question you didn’t like?

Nah, not really because I just look at it like that’s your job. The paparazzi, that’s what they get paid for. If I was paparazzi, I would go hard too. I would want pictures every day of Rihanna in the shower. You get interviews and ask questions. I look at you better when you ask me the crazy questions. I like it better because you’re getting to the point. When they asked Rick Ross if that was him in the picture, he kept trying to run around the question and shout out his BET special. That’s why I loved Big Boy’s interview, because he asked him the question. Once you’re on a big show like Big Boy or Flex and somebody asks you a question…He didn’t even want to do Angie Martinez’s show because he knew Angie would have got it out of him. You can ask me any question. I been heard it all. It’s cool.

What’d you have for breakfast today?

That’s a good fucking question. You know what I had for breakfast? I had some Granddaddy Kush for breakfast. I didn’t even eat yet. I didn’t have time, man. I had a lot of things I had to do this morning. I got a flight to France. Franceeee. That’s how Rick Ross say it. Bossss. That’s what real niggas do. I been to Dubai when these niggas was just getting their careers started. They can call me Phony Yayo or whatever. These bum-ass niggas just started traveling.

He got titties and shit. He got titties and he wants to beef with me. You got titties, man. You ain’t ready for me, man. Triple C’s, I know you seen when that nigga got his ass knocked out. That’s why I tell these niggas, you don’t want it with me.

I’m in a bulletproof truck and no exaggeration, my windows roll down slow, homie. I’m prepared for any kind of issue. I’ve been shot at before. That shit ain’t nothing to me. And niggas have shot at me and I didn’t tell on them. It is what it is, man. Niggas know what it is with me, man. He did videos in Manhattan and he did one video in the Bronx and a nigga got locked up and Lord Tariq got in the video with Rick Ross but Hocus and Mysonne and them, they didn’t agree to that shit. That shit was corny. It’s a cutthroat game. You know what it is. Everybody’s cutting each other’s throats. You can’t be a nice guy in this rap shit. You gotta be a mean guy.

You’ve always been cool to me when we’ve talked.

I try to be a nice guy. It’s hard. It’s like, the nicer you be to people in the industry, the more they get over on you. I’m tired of that shit. That’s why I’ve been quiet. Obama’s president. I’m trying to change. But I don’t know. These guys don’t want me to change, man. It’s like nobody wants me to change so I gotta go back to my old ways.

I’m selling candy bars for my little league team’s uniforms. Will you buy some?

Yeah!

You are a nice guy.

Let me put Jeremy on the phone and I’ll buy a whole bunch of boxes. Jeremy, buy a couple of boxes of candy.

Thanks, man. Actually I don’t have candy. I was just seeing if you were really a nice guy.

That’s a good hustle though! That’s a good hustle. Sell some candy bars and shit like that.

Exactly! You already spoke on Rick Ross’ appearance. I’ve always wondered why do you think so many rotund MCs, like Ross and Fat Joe, take their shirts off all the time?

Because they wanna be Biggie, man. Biggie was the coolest fat nigga there was, in the world. The coolest fat guy in the world! And you know, his stylist, respect to the man and his stylist. I think my style is better but respect to him. He styled Biggie and now that he’s styling Rick Ross, Rick Ross thinks he’s Biggie. Do the math and really watch this shit. Them niggas is taking their shirts off because Biggie did it and Biggie is my favorite rapper in the world. That’s why they think it’s cool. Biggie was a fat guy but he had so much swagger with it that everybody overlooked that. These people is fat and people still see it.

What do you think of Eminem’s Relapse?

It’s crack. Shout out to Dr. Dre, Eminem and 50 Cent, the three-headed monster. We’re taking over this shit so niggas better recognize! It’s 3 am in the morning! We don’t have time for this shit and people definitely don’t want problems with Eminem and Dr. Dre. 50 made Forbes. That’s where the jealousy comes from. While these niggas hate, we’re going to continue to migrate and make money. Check out my video “Day Late.” That’s dedicated to everybody.

And haters said Eminem couldn’t come back. Eminem has haters and everybody’s a critic. From what I know the shit is hot and I got 10 of them shits already. Shout out to Em and hopefully he does a million in his first week and we can pop some champagne in Dubai. We don’t have time for the haters, man.

Do you know anything about the status of 50’s new album Before I Self-Destruct?

Before I Self-Destruct is a fucking classic. This is what the public has to understand – them dudes got money so when they decide that they wanna drop, they’re not pressed for an album release. These silly niggas like Rick Ross, they’re pressed. These guys like 50, Eminem, Jay-Z, they don’t have to drop because they have M’s already. So when 50 decides he wants to drop, he’ll drop. He’s not pressed for advance money. My money’s not like that so I’m pressed to drop. I don’t have money like that.

You still seem to play your role well.

Exactly. I got sprinklers that come out of my ground and my kids got Pampers. I drive nice Bentleys and shit. I’ve been doing this. I’ve lived in condos in Manhattans and Queens. I’ve been there and done it. Let me tell you something – when people are doing what you did already, it’s nothing to you. It’s a small thing to a giant. I did that already. It doesn’t matter to me.

Why do you think so many rappers are insecure with being a role player and not the leader?

Because everybody wants to be a bossss (does Rick Ross voice). I’m my own boss too. I got my own things coming. I got a lot of moves that I’m making for the ’09 that’s happening. I’m a boss in my own ways but 50’s my boss and 50’s boss is Eminem, so what’s the problem with that.

Are you still working on your own label?

I’m working with Louis Castro and an artist Young Money. I’m working with a couple of artists right now. You’re going to be hearing more stuff from Yayo and seeing me all over the place like a chicken with his head cut off.

Is there any truth to the rumor that Nelson from G-Unit tried to pay Rick Ross to stop beefing with the Unit?

Nelson doesn’t have $250,000, no disrespect to him. When somebody is losing, they make up shit. He’s mad that Tia told me he’s a little guy with big breasts. But look out for Swine Flu, hosted by Macazo.

Do you feel safe traveling with swine flu?

Shit, I gotta do what I gotta do. People die every day. It’s fucked up what’s happening. It started in Queens. That’s where I thought of the idea for my mixtape and it’s a tragic thing that one guy dude from it, the superintendent of schools. It’s crazy. And you got little kids getting shot in Chicago in elementary schools. I just look at everything, man.
