Default Punch (Billboard Breakthrough) Interview

Punch (Billboard Breakthrough) Interview

J-Banks: First thing. Who is Punch tell us a little about yourself and what can we expect from you?

Punch: Well im a pretty straight forward person, very competitive, extremely loyal and focused. Im a man of my word so Ill exhaust myself to uphold that which gets into what the people can expect from me. I feel as if I will have a huge impact on the game, the net & the streets so the number 1 thing you can expect from me is CHANGE ! Most Rappers you hear presently all do one thing very well, so you can expect versatility from me to be accepted in the many different spaces in Rap today.

J-Banks: How Did you get the name Punch?

Punch: Well being from NY the comeup is tough, so I use to hit the battle circuit alot and after a couple face to face encounters people use to joke around saying they were all knockouts. Slowly but surely the name started poking out ” The Punch” so I started moving with it and I switch it up from The Punch to just Punch ever so often.

J-Banks: What does Hip Hop mean to you?

Punch: I hate this question because so many people give generic answers and I feel because of that it waters down the impact of my response because its such a common view point. But HIP HOP means everything to me, music itself has by far the biggest influence on my life right now. From its mood changing value to hearing an inspirational joint and wanting to get on my job to the bouncy club music and flirt around, and Hip Hop being the entire culture of it all only allows it to come together mixed up beautifully. The lifestyle of Hip Hop is what I live, from the way I wear my clothes to the type of words I use to to communicate. I AM HIP HOP.

J-Banks: Who or what first inspired you to start rapping?

Punch: Well no one person inspired me, it just was kind of natural I use to play basketball pretty seriously and after a couple practices and the team would bullshit around and freestyle it started to show that I had it a bit smoother then the rest of the guys. Then a bored day in class and I put the pen the paper then its been additive ever since.

J-Banks: What influences your music and your style?

Punch: My music is influenced by my everyday life, every single bar is 100 percent factual and all derieved from something that happened to me. So everyone around me is generally my influence i feed off of people in my circles success and work ethic and try to use their energy to slingshot mine. My style is influenced by my surroundings, I clean up nice lol so one day it may be a boots with a thermal, a button up with a nice coat or my usual choice a fresh pair of airs to match a hoody.

J-Banks: Top 5 Dead Or Alive, regardless of genre?

Punch: Well my top 5 is a little different, because I never argue the dead so BIG, PUN, L and so forth are all set in stone no one can move em no one can touch so theres no point in arguing their position. But if i had to make a top 5 it would go something like this, Jay Z, Jadakiss, Fabolous, Camron and DMX.

J-Banks: What are your favorite albums of all time?

Punch: DMX - Its Dark & Hell Is Hot, Flesh Of My Flesh, Jay Z- Kingdom Come ( im sorry i love it ) & Black Album, Fabolous- Street Dreams, Camron - Come Home With Me, Young Jeezy - Thug Motivation, T I - Urban Legend & 1000 more.

J-Banks: Name some artists you would love to collabo with in the future?

Punch: Artists- Jay Z of course, Akon, Young Jeezy, Fabolous & The Clipse. Producers- Kanye West, Polow Da Don, Danjahandz, Swizz Beats & Cool N Dre.

J-Banks: Everyone seems to be asking this question, so I might as well also. What are the top 5 girls you would smash?

Punch: Keri Hilson, Beyonce, Tyra Banks, Keri Washington and Roxy Reynolds lol.

J-Banks: Off Subject, where do you chill at alot/eat at?

Punch: Well I got a lot of different people helping the movement of Punch, so i chill with the different teams alot from Get Wet, 576 Productions, Grammy Family, TSR & The HT. Basically to keep the bond close, I feel that if your trying to help me ill try to help you also and the only way to keep that flow going is by constant building and communication. I eat alot of pizza I love Pizza Hut & Dominoes there by far my favorite foods. But i love breakfast so where ever i can get Scrammbled Eggs and Pancakes is definetely the first choice.

J-Banks: Off subject, What are your favorites tv shows/movies?

Punch: Lately I’ve been loving the TV show “The Game”, Sportscenter, Rome Is Burning & PYI. My Favorite movie of all time is a tie between “The Last Dragon” & “Man On Fire”.

J-Banks: It a new Year, what are your goals for 09?

Punch: My biggest goal of course would be to be find a major label as a home. 2nd Gracing the cover of XXL for this years rookie class. Making the Billboard Breakthrough a household name and getting a couple singles in rotation getting my BDS up.

J-Banks: 5 things fans might not know about you?

Punch: I love cake, brownies & cookies etc. Im a home body & sometimes HATE the club scene. My A&R ear is about 1000 times sharper then my Rapper Ear. I think brown skin woman are sent directly from Heaven and that Im 6′5 and i dont mind standing over my competition lol most rappers are like 5′ 5 short ass niggas.

J-Banks: What’s going on with you as far as current projects go?

Punch: Well The Billboard Breakthrough is doing great its being received extremely well as of late. Im sponsored by Reason Clothing & Rome Clothing. 576 Productions and I are going to start shooting full budget videos for my singles and a Mixtape is in the works, along with more consistency of leaking freestyles.

J-Banks: Where can fans check you out, listen to your music?

Punch: Here my myspace , youtube , twitter , imeem and my vimeo account

J-Banks: Any last words, shoutouts before we leave?

Punch: THIS I MUST WRITE IN CAPS, TO ANYONE THAT READS THIS IF I CAN JUST LEAVE YOU WITH ONE REQUEST, AND THAT REQUEST IS TO LISTEN TO MY MUSIC AS IF YOU HEARD JAY Z SAY I WAS THAT “NEXT NIGGA” I MEAN TRULY GIVE MY MUSIC A OPEN MIND AND FRESH EAR. I MEAN ITS JUST MY OPINION BUT BAR FOR BAR ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO WITTY JABS AND METAPHORS IM ONE OF THE FEW NEW GUYS WHO DONT TAKE BARS OFF AND WITH THAT SAID IM ATTEMPTING TO GAIN A RESPECT FOR THAT. SOOO ALL IN ALL JUST LISTEN TO THE MUSIC AND FEEL WHAT IM SAYING JUST AS I WAS ONE OF THE BIG SHOTS. THANK U J BANKS !!!!!!!!!!! u the MAN.

PUNCH
