K. Sparks (Double Up Ent) Interview

J-Banks: First thing. Who is K. Sparks tell us a little about yourself and what can we expect from you?

K. Sparks: K. Sparks is an eclectic artist. I don’t limit myself to one style. I do any and everything musically as long as it is dope. I also ghost write for artist as well as do music production. I am also Chief Executive Officer of the Indie imprint Double Up Entertainment.

J-Banks: How Did you get the name K. Sparks?

K. Sparks: I got my name because my government name begins with a K, and cats in my hood would always ask me to spark up a rhyme cypher. After a while they started calling me K. Sparks.

J-Banks: What influences your music and your style?

K. Sparks: Life in general. If I’m having a great day that will influence me to write something with a more positive tone. However, if I’m having a shitty day then that will reflect in my music. Also I listen to an eclectic range of music from Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, Pop, Gospel and etc so I have a lot of different influences. My music is really all over the place.

J-Banks: What does Hip Hop mean to you?

K. Sparks: Hip Hop means everything to me. It is a way of life, it is about expression, it is about choice, but most importantly it is about being real to one’s self. When artist create music it should always be a reflection of them. If it isn’t coming from a sincere place people can always tell because eventually the truth will come out.

J-Banks: Top 5 Dead Or Alive, regardless of genre?

K. Sparks: 2 Pac, Nas, Eminem, Big pun, and Ras Kass.

J-Banks: What are your favorite albums of all time?

K. Sparks: 2 Pac/Makaveli, Nas/Illmatic, Eminem/The Eminem Show, Big Pun/Capital Punishment, and Ras Kass/Soul On Ice.

J-Banks: Everyone seems to be asking this question, so I might as well also. What are the top 5 girls you would smash?

K. Sparks: (laughs) Model Reicha is the first that comes to mind. The others don’t really impress.

J-Banks: Name some artists you would love to collabo with in the future?

K. Sparks: Man, most of the artist I wanted to collab with are deceased so there aren’t really that many left. The only ones I would want to do something with are Ras Kass, Eminem, and Nas. However, from an R&B stand point I would love to work with Jill Scott or Tonex. They are both dope.

J-Banks: Off Subject, where do you chill at alot/eat at?

K. Sparks: The spot that myself and my team go to a lot is Santa Fe’s. It’s a spot in Queens that has the best hot wings on the planet (shameless plug).

J-Banks: Off subject, What are your favorites tv shows/movies?

K. Sparks: I like to watch Forensic Files on True TV. It’s interesting to see all of the dumb shit these crazy ass people do and then to see how they get caught (laughs).

J-Banks: It a new Year, what are your goals for 09?

K. Sparks: My goal for 2009 is to ensure that I continue to brand K. Sparks as one of the top artist that will take over the music industry. In 2008/2009 I have pretty much solidified myself as one of the top artist in the underground. There is no other artist that can match my work ethic and consistency. Now I will take my career to the next level and step it up even more on these other artist/industry.

J-Banks: What’s going on with you as far as current projects go?

K. Sparks: I have a lot of projects at the moment. I just released The Red Tape produced entirely by French Producer Kurser. The Blue Tape, Soul Food (with Pajozo), Queens vs Brooklyn (with Angelous), No Competition Mixtape with Julius Francis, FP4 (with DJ Dub Lee), Positive Over Negative (with DJ Bobby Bob) and BlackMan & Robinn (with Dave Barz).
