K-Sparks
"Manic Mondays Vol.1" Review ![]() ![]() In the day of ring tone rappers and Hip-Pop, K Sparks is a stand out and exactly what Hip Hop needs. He is hands down one of todays most eclectic, original and and lyrical artists. Mixtape Assassin's latest mixtape "Manic Mondays Vol. 1" is a perfect showcase of exactly that. Manic Mondays is K Sparks weekly series, much like Crooked I's "Hip Hop Weekly." What really makes Manic Mondays stand out is it contains all original material and beats. Sparks series thus far has been right up to the level of Crooks "Hip Hop Weekly" in terms of his consistency of putting out dope tracks on a weekly basis, and he has yet to disappoint. But what really brings it to another level and sets it apart is the extremely good original production by Kurser, Moe Productions and T-Mos among others. Ive been following the series every week now since week 4 (slept for a minute in the beginning, cant lie), and the quality of the music has never lacked, and seems to be getting stronger as the weeks continue. However what hit me, is how the first 17 tracks we've heard so far blend into the perfect mixtape on Mixtape Assassin's "Manic Mondays Vol. 1". Assassins mixing is at its best and really shines as he seamlessly blends and mixes each track to create an extremely smooth, flowing tape. None of the tracks or mixing sound out of place, and the tape progresses perfectly. I don't know if Sparks knew how well his weeklies would flow when they were put together in tape form, but it really is surprising and makes for a quality mixtape. Sparks is really showing he can do it all in his weeklies and this tape brings it all together so you can see the versatility in one sitting, in mixtape form. He can spit conscious rap and tell stories over tracks like 'Visual Sound' with its light piano and violins, or he can spit street shit over the hard bump and organs on tracks like 'Hard Lemonade', or 'Back Down' which features Double Up Ent. fam Dave Barz. Sparks flow matches the bounce and jazz pianos of 'Never' perfectly with another Double Up Ent. team member, Tina Quallo delivering a smooth soulful chorus and backing vocals. But whether the track is laid back, or a street banger, Sparks never holds back on being lyrical as fuck. 'Dictionary' shows off Sparks talent with words by him running through the ABCs. What sets Sparks apart from the many other rappers that have used this concept, is his signature flow and how he all out attacks the track. Sparks is a true lyricist and he has the metaphors, wordplay, smilies, delivery, and an amazing talent at delivering messages to prove it. Manic Mondays Vol.1 is one of the best mixtapes of the year in my opinion, and if nothing else, it needs to be given a serious listen. Sparks raw talent combined with the raw talent of his producers and Mixtape Assassin makes for some of Hip Hop at its best. There is so much diversity of content, flow, production, and overall style that it has something for every type of hip hop fan out there. If you sit down, and listen to the tape through, you WILL find something you like, if not the whole damn thing. Check it out here now or 1 -207
