![]() Super Producer Alchemist links up with HHLO’s Ei8ht in midtown NY, to talk about his roll on the HNIC pt2 album, his new solo project, and whether he was forced to find inspiration in the form of a lollipop. Ei8ht: Aight so what’s good man? We are here with the infamous Alchemist. Now you’ve been working with P damn near exclusively over the past few years, what was your role on this new album? Alchemist: I mean just laying down beats as always. Just making sure sh*t came right, made sure all the other producers came through it was a right decision to use all of the other beats, and the sh*t came out tight. Ei8ht: So you kind of was the mastermind behind putting the sh*t together then correct? Alchemist: That was P (prodigy) man but I definitely was there to keep the ball in play while he was doing his thing you know. Ei8ht: Aight so how many tracks did you have on this album? Alchemist: Maybe about 5 or 6 Ei8ht: So I know you guy’s did the album together “Return of the Mac” how did that project do sales wise? Alchemist: It actually did pretty well. It did well. Ei8ht: So what are your expectations for the new P album? Alchemist: As long as people hear it, you know what I mean, I get my bread a lot of ways you know so I don’t like expect a record to sale mad units in order for me to get paid so as long as people hear it, its still a record. I don’t give a sh*t. At the end of the day, we don’t do this for sound scans, I mean it’s cool but it’s like as long as a million people hear it, it doesn’t matter to me how it does in sales. Ei8ht: Aight so what’s good with you personally what kind of projects are you working on for yourself are we going to get another Al album or what? Alchemist: Yea, yea “Chemical Warfare” it’s almost done, I just have been pushing it back little by little, getting Koch on board. We are putting it out with Koch, getting ready to do it as big if not bigger than the last one. It will be ready by the summertime, Chemical Warfare. Ei8ht: That’s what it is man, now I will tell you this much; the first album that you did man was a hot album man. It kind of went unnoticed in the mainstream arena but the joint that you did toward the end of the album, I can’t recall who was on it with you but it was a back and forth track. … Alchemist: That was the one with me and Twin. Ei8ht: Yea that was a classical song man “Different Worlds”. Alchemist: Yea that one is kind of self explanatory, the track is basically about how music brings people together. Ei8ht: So are there any other projects that you are working on or are there any other artist that you are working with right now? Alchemist: Yea, I’m just laying beats. I just laid some beats for Lil Wayne’s new album, I did some…… Ei8ht: Hold on, hold on. Did you say Lil Wayne? Alchemist: Yea Ei8ht: Ahhhh come on man, are you serious? Come on man. Alchemist: Yea it got, Fabolous and Jewelz Santana on it. It’s some hard sh*t. I did some sh*t for Rakim’s album, I did some sh*t for Jadakiss’ new album, just staying busy basically. Ei8ht: Lil Wayne didn’t make you suck on a lollipop while you did the track or nothing like that, did he? Alchemist: (Laughing) Hell no man. Are you crazy? Ei8ht: Aight I’m just making sure. I know the ni**a like sucking on lollipops and sh*t, I saw the video. Alchemist: Nah this is a gutter one man, there definitely wasn’t any lollipops in the studio on this one. Ei8ht: Aight so are there any other cats that you are working with out there or what man? Alchemist: I have an album I just worked on with my man Oh No from the West Coast, he’s Mad lib’s brother. He does beats and rhymes, so we just did an album together it’s called Gang Green. Ei8ht: Yea, you get a lot of love out there on the West Coast for you man, you and Cormega. But I’m not going to keep you that long man I know you had a long day. Thank you for coming out. Alchemist: Yea thanks man I appreciate it. Ei8ht: Yea, just keep the lollipops out of your mouth, don’t kiss the ni**a on the cheek when the song is done. Alchemist: Nah I’m just making the beats man, shout out to all of them.
