One dude in the game you have to respect is R&B singer Marques Houston. Let’s be real, how many cats you know been in the game since eight years old and now in his twenties holding it down. We all know this dude has been around for years as he began with the group Immature, who had teen girls all over the nation screaming their lungs out. I bet it’s nothing like groupie love at such a young age. As expected though, these cats in the boy-band do get older and everybody eventually wants to be on their solo shit.
Back after a two year break of releasing his last album Naked the underrated vet is back with the new album Veteran. It's crazy to be a vet and still only twenty-five. With all the years Batman has been in the game,one can imagine that a lot went on with his life. Rising as a star at such a young age can break down many, but for Houston there's plenty of credit he gives it for his longevity. Houston does tell of a crazy encounter with groupies when they were only fourteen. As from what Marques Houston says Veteran will be a relationship driven album and he also speaks on the male macho ego, but at the end of the day the ladies love a sensitive man.
HHDX: When you came out you was so young so what does it take to be around so long?
MH: Actually I give all credit to God. I feel like I was truly blessed to be in this industry for so long starting at a young age since eight years old still being here at twenty-five putting out another album and still able to be successful. My career as a whole I’ve been very blessed and God is definitely showing me a lot of love.
HHDX: What it’s like being a star so young?
MH: It was different you know, getting a lot of attention. But you know I grew up loving attention so you know that wasn’t a thing for me. I loved attention with girls and all that stuff so I would say that the main thing was attention and working hard. I’m a go-getter so I feel like I wouldn’t take anything back or change anything I love about my life which was great.
HHDX: I know the girls were crazy being so young!
MH: Oh Yeah [laughs].
HHDX: I always wanted to ask you where did the name “Batman” come from?
MH: It’s a long story behind that one, but when I was younger when I first started in the group Immature I used to wear Batman drawers on my head. That’s where the name comes from, it’s a little nickname that I got when I was eight [laughs].

HHDX: My man was a big fan of Batman and I respect that!
MH: Oh yeah yes sir!
HHDX: Is it possible fans will get another album from IMX as a group?
MH: Aw man stay tuned you never know what’s going to happen.
HHDX: How you feel about your boy Omarion holding it down with “Ice Box” right now?
MH: Omarion is doing his thing, he got the remix out right now with Usher and I’m really proud of him. He’s come a long way from back in the B2K days and he’s doing it right now.
HHDX: Why you didn’t get up on the remix?
MH: We stay off each others records, too many people expect me and O to do a record together that’s why we don’t.
HHDX: I thought ya’ll might do a duo album one day or something?
MH: Nah, well you never know what’s gonna happen. This industry is crazy and it’s changing everyday you never know what you gonna do next.
HHDX: So what’s the groupie love like and everything?
MH: [Laughs], You know I don’t mess with the groupies.
HHDX: You said you don’t?
MH: No, she will kill me if I mess with groupies.
HHDX: Yeah you know how that is.
MH: Exactly, you know.
HHDX: But I know you had to have a crazy groupie encounter before you hooked up with her?
MH: Oh yeah I had a couple of crazy groupie encounters, especially with Immature back in the day in them days with me and the boys it was crazy.
HHDX: Can you give me a brief story?
MH: One story that really sticks out to me is when I was fourteen when we were in Detroit. This girl was in the hallway and she was stripping for us showing us her goods. We were fourteen so that was amazing to us. An older woman showing us all that was crazy, but you know [laughs].
HHDX: [Laughs], ya’ll boys were wild back then I see.
MH: Yeah, [Laughs].
HHDX: What’s good with the new album Veteran?
MH: Veteran is in stores now and it’s real different from the last time. The last time was real sexually explicit, very grown, and sexy. This one is more relationship driven and everything is a personal experience that actually happened to me. I wrote the majority of the album about nine out of eleven songs and their all about personal relationships. Sometimes artists go through that state where we regular people too you know? We go through break-ups, make-ups, getting your heart broke, and all that. From a guy standpoint having your heart broke is difficult, it’s more difficult for a man than it is for women. A lot of the times women are sensitive and guys don’t really show their emotions a lot. It’s difficult when a guy gets his heart-broken because you are forced to show your emotions. That’s what this album is about being in love, getting your heart broken, break-ups, make-ups all that stuff.

HHDX: Is it titled Veteran for how long you been in the game?
MH: Yeah definitely, it’s Veteran because of how long I been in the game and what I contributed to the game and to still be here and successful.
HHDX: What’s good with the first single from the album?
MH: Well “Circle" is out right now shout-out to B-Cox who produced a couple of songs on the record. Everybody loves “Circle” and I’m just rolling with the punches going with the flow. I try to put out music I think everybody is going to enjoy so you never know what’s going to happen.
HHDX: You said the album was going to be about guys getting their heart-broken and everything so why you think dudes have a big ego when it comes to talking about that stuff?
MH: You know what it is? Because we're guys and we have to be tough all the time. We have to be soldiers and you can’t really show your emotional side, but I think that's what guys don’t understand is that women like that. We can show a little emotion and maybe put a little tear in your eye too showing it’s okay for you to be sensitive. I think we focus too much on being the tough ones, but girls really like when you can show that sensitive side.
HHDX: I see with this album you're trying to school some of us.
MH: You know I got to do that little bit.
HHDX: Remember the song “First Time” you did with IMX a few years ago? Was that a true story with you running out the house and everything?
MH: It was a true story a little bit of it was kind of an enhanced story, but for the most part it was a true story.
HHDX: What’s good with the features for the album?
MH: I got features from my boy Young Joc, my girl Mya, Shawnna, and it’s pretty star-studded.
HHDX: I look forward to the album, but will we get another song like “Naked” on there?
MH: I think the closest song to naked on this album is called “Always and Forever” and the vibe of the song is kind of the same. It’s not talking about the same thing it’s still relationship driven.
HHDX: Besides the music and everything what else you have going on as far as movies, clothes, what’s good?
MH: Movies, Television, clothes, everything I’m trying to get my hands in man. I just became the CEO of TUG Entertainment and my responsibilities just went from 10 to 1,000. I’m trying to now run a company and focus everything on my business right now.
