SHH: Word… So you’re trying to shoe em you got it? But you hit the mainstream out of nowhere and critics (myself including) felt that the product wasn't there yet. What do you have to say to those who think you won't pull off a solid and successful mainstream album?

Hot Rod: I say just wait and see what I hit ya’ll wit next. If you still ain’t feelin' the kid, then there's somethin’ wrong wit you. I mean, I got the style, the bars, the songwriting abilities, the looks.... its all there, but you know what it is, there's a lot of niggas out there hatin’ on the boy cause he with The Unit, but then again there's a lot of love too... Actually -Hate is the new love- So it feels good... yes so, so good...

SHH: It's no secret that you're sound is similar to 50 Cent's when he does his "club" records and he's been quoted in interviews as saying it too. Similar flow and swagger on the tracks etc... Now back to what the critics are saying. It seems like they use this as fuel against your character. Almost to suggest you're a "50 Cent clone." What do you have to say to them in reference to that?

Hot Rod: Well I'd rather be clone of a nigga who sold 20 million records wit two albums than a clone of a nigga who sold 100k with five albums. I'd love to be a rich clone rather than a poor one. (Laughs) Nah, but seriously I don't take offense to it because at the end of the day that means I make good quality music. Plus I have so many different flows and patterns it’s kind of hard to say I sound like one particular artist. I have my own sound and it’s my responsibility to provide the public with more material so they can experience my sound.

SHH: Cool… So moving on… We noticed you've been fairly quiet when it comes to the beefs in the camp, from the Diddy beef to the now growing Cam' Ron & Dipset beef. Do you ever get the urge to jump in the ring and just say, "Fuck it I'ma get at em too"?

Hot Rod: Yeah I get the urge at times cause I have that battle rapper mentality deep down inside. I use to slay niggas when I was on the battle rap shit until I realized that's not gonna get me to the bread so, yeah you'll probably hear me toss a shady ass bar here and there, but not too crazy. I'm a funny nigga so I know how to get at niggas strategically
and have they own boys laughin’ at em. I got a bunch of skits about niggas that I made for fun and I might bring em out just to get the engine goin’ a lil bit.

SHH: Let's talk about the internet. It's no secret you're a MySpace junkie and you get a lot of love on the net from fans all over the world. How crucial do you feel the net has been to your current success?

Hot Rod: I mean.... I use to jack beats off of Soundclick.com and make hits and get them on the radio. I fucks with MySpace hard because it connects you to the world so the networking capabilities are endless. I actually met up with the nigga who got my music in 50's hand (Shouts out to Taurus Scott my nigga). I met him off of the local Arizona site 602streets.com. So the internet played a huge part in my journey to becoming a superstar. Shouts out to all the dot coms, dot orgs, dot govs, and dot nets... (Laughs) oh and the dot edu's...

SHH: Your critics on the net have been vast as well. Most notably SOHH.com and Allhiphop.com, they've went hard on you and G-Unit over the past few months. What sparked off all this controversy?

Nah, but really these internet sites don't really determine who's hot or what's hot. Nor do they play a significant role in the actual real world. For example you can take a nigga like Lupe Fiasco ok? If you live life in the cyber world, he went platinum. Those are the type of artist that get love on the internet. You can't really get caught up in those sites because you lose sight of reality. I don't know if it true but I heard the nigga Joe Budden and Game be readin' shit niggas be sayin' about them online and be respondin’ to em, getting’ mad and shit. You can't get involved in an internet war with no 14 year old knucklehead. He already won just by gettin' your attention and I did read some shit though on Allhiphop I believe it had me laughin’ for a while. It said somethin ‘like " Arguing on the internet is like the Special Olympics.... whether you win or lose..... You're still retarded." Hot Rod: Well you know these sites are like tabloids and the Jerry Springer show. They live off of controversial issues to try and gather more traffic to their sites... Ya know? So they can charge more for advertising space and shit... So it all comes down to the money and also the hate for G-Unit. But in the end it doesn't really bother anyone on the team because we getting’ money. Now if we weren't getting’ money, then we’d have a problem. SHH: Let’s talk about your album "Fastlane." It has been bumped from summer 2006, to fourth quarter 2006, to first quarter 2007; to I don't even know anymore. Are you going to
come out before 50 Cent's new album or are they going to hold off till later in 2007 when you can drop in a healthy fourth quarter?

Hot Rod: This shit is chess it ain't checkers (Shouts to Denzel). I held a meeting with the big wigs at the label and we decided for me to drop after 50. I'm gonna go on tour with fif in May leading up to his release in June and then come after him in the 4th quarter of this year. The world needs this new 50 album. Believe it or not, this album s shittin’ on G.R.O.D.T. (Get Rich Or Die Tryin’) man... He took it back, plus he has legendary features. It’s another classic bitches...

SHH: How do you feel about your first single "Be Easy" featuring Mary J. Blige? It had a lukewarm response to it on the radio & video channels when it dropped last Fall. What do
you think was the problem with that record now that you look back on it?

Hot Rod: It was my warm up record and it did what it was supposed to. I have face recognition and I've been co-signed by a legend. If I could change one thing, I think the video could have been better. It didn't capture my personality the way it should've you feel me? So that's one of the reasons I feel some people didn't fully accept the record. The joint was a good look though definitely.

SHH: You shot the video for the tentative second single the track "Rock To It" in December. When are we going to see the new single hit the streets?

Hot Rod: We might leak it in a couple weeks. Shits a banger... You people need this song in your life.

SHH: How is the rest of the album coming along? How deep are you into the recording and give us an update on who's going to be on it?

Hot Rod: I'm pickin’ out the tracks I want to keep now and its hard cause I recorded to tracks from Dre, Em, Polow Da Don, Pete Rock, Jake One, Cannon, Premo, Hi-Tek, Dangerous LLC, Jiggolo, Kadis N Sean, Rockwilder, J Henn, M.Rell, Lab Ox, SoundSquad... Hot Rod: I did some music for a freestyle basketball game that is being introduced to the U.S. this year. It has like 30 million players in Japan alone so that's a big look for me and (Lloyd) Banks. I'm also dropping mix tapes with Whoo Kid, Drama, Woogie, Rob E Rob, Warrior and some others so I can show niggas how nasty I am wit the bars. I'm also doin’ hood DVD's, shootin’ hood videos and all types of shit like that. I'm goin’ hard to the paint with my nigga Frenchie wit Cocaine City. I just shot a video wit him and my nigga Mazaradi Foxx... DUMBOUTS!!!!!
